The School for Good and Evil Trailer Released by Netflix
In its first trailer, Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil pulls back the curtain on the origin of iconic fairy tales.
Best friends and protagonists Agatha and Sophia find themselves in an epic battle between the two forces when they get swept up in the “hallowed institution.”
The film — directed by Paul Feig — debuts on the streaming service Wednesday, October 19.

TVLine notes that The School for the Good and Evil is an adaptation of Soman Chainani’s 2013 novel — one part of a famous YA fantasy book series.
Netflix’s TUDUM shares, “Agatha and Sophie’s enchanted new academy trains the heroes and villains of your favorite storybooks to maintain the balance of good and evil the world over.”
The villains-in-the-making attend the School for Evil, while the heroes go to the School for the Good. Then, the graduates become the key players in the fairy tales we all know and love.
Charlize Theron’s “glamourous and acid-tongued” Lady Lesso runs the School for Evil, where Sophie, played by Broadway’s Beetlejuice: The Musical‘s Sophia Anne Caruso, is placed.

Alternatively, Kerry Washington plays “the sunny and kind” Professor Dovey, who runs the School for the Good, where Agatha is placed. Sofia Wylie from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series plays Agatha.
Shadow and Bone‘s Kit Young appears in the trailer as a man in a mirror “with mysterious ties to Sophie” who “reemerges and threatens to destroy the school and the world beyond entirely.”
The only way for Agatha and Sophie to ensure a happy ending to the fairy tales that endure time “is to survive their real life fairytale first.”
The trailer showcases everything from sweeping visuals and stunning costumes to epic action and engaging magic. At the heart of it all is a story about two best friends trying to save each other — and the world.

Wylie told TUDUM about Agatha and Sophie’s friendship, “Both of the girls have strengths that complement each other. When one of the characters is faltering, the other is there to pick them up.”
Caruso added, “The movie is full of magic, but the real heart of it and the true magic is their love.”
The School for Good and Evil also stars Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Flatters, Peter Serafinowicz, Rob Delaney, Mark Heap, Patti LuPone, and Rachel Bloom.
