The Umbrella Academy Renewed for Fourth and Final Season by Netflix

News

Prepare to say goodbye to the Hargreeves family after one last adventure. The Umbrella Academy will return for a fourth and final season on Netflix.

Creator and showrunner Steve Blackman will executive produce the farewell season of the sci-fi superhero showed based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comics.

After Season 3’s twists and turns, this renewal lets Brellies (the affectionate name for The Umbrella Academy fans) breathe a sigh of relief that the characters won’t hang from those cliffs for too long.

The Season 3 finale ends with the Umbrella Academy and Sparrow Academy siblings — minus Allison and Sloane — without their powers in another new timeline. Shocker: their less-than-human father, Reginald Hargreeves, rules this one.

This twist comes after Allison kills Reginald to prevent him from revamping the entire universe to his liking.

Elsewhere, Allison finds herself in the Los Angeles home she shares with her daughter Claire, but her husband Ray from Season 2’s 1960s timeline is there, too.

So, plenty is amiss heading into its final season, but that’s not new territory for The Umbrella Academy. Steve Blackman teased details about the show’s new timeline in a conversation with Netflix’s TUDUM.

“This new timeline has been dictated by Hargreeves, who reprogrammed the Universe at the end of the Season 3 finale. But because of Allison’s actions, he didn’t get to finish what he started before Allison pressed the reset button,” Blackman shared.

In the same interview, Blackman revealed that the Ben on a Korean subway train in Season 3’s post-credits scene is Sparrow Ben, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason to be concerned.

“This is the Umbrella Academy. As every good Umbrella fan knows, no moment in the show exists in isolation. Everything we see has meaning. And this moment is no exception,” Blackman teased.

While there’s no release window for The Umbrella Academy‘s final season, these tidbits are enough to keep fans wondering how — or if — the Umbrella Academy and Sparrow siblings will reunite before all is said and done.

In a statement reported by TV Line, Blackman shared his anticipation for Season 4, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago.”

“But before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for Season 4, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes,” Blackman continued.

Netflix’s TUDUM confirms that Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore will return for Season 4.

The Umbrella Academy is streaming now on Netflix.
