The Resident Season 5 Catch-Up: Everything You Need to Remember Ahead of The Resident Season 6
With so many different cases, doctors, and patients, it can be hard to remember everything that happened in The Resident Season 5. That’s why it might be a good idea to go over some of the most important plotlines of the season.
Every character went through a roller coaster of emotions that prepared them for what is to come in The Resident Season 6.
Everything you need to remember about The Resident Season 5:
Kit Voss and Randolph Bell

Kit Voss and Randolph Bell are at the top of every viewer’s favorite couples. The Resident Season 5 established them as a power couple who has each other’s back for better or for worse.
During the beginning of The Resident Season 5, a cyberattack put Chastain at risk but gave Kit Voss the chance to prove herself as a CEO. She kept the situation under control and was able to save the hospital and its patients.
Throughout the season, she continued to develop in her new role as she implemented new programs for the hospital. The Flight Go Team and Devon’s trial were some of the innovations that Kit made happen at Chastain.
Although, at times, she is met with restrictions from the board, Kit has proved time and time again that she is a great surgeon and a qualified CEO.

Her partner in crime, Randolph Bell, had quite a season as well. During The Resident Season 5 Episode 11, “Her Heart,” he received his MS diagnosis, leaving him at a crossroads.
Shortly after his diagnosis, Bell wanted to give up his career and began pushing his loved ones away. However, his relationship with Kit Voss was stronger, and she helped him get situated for treatments that could help him continue his career.
Throughout the season, viewers saw him deal with his diagnosis and several flare-ups. Lucky for him, he had a great support system that kept him going. It was Kit, Conrad, and The Raptor who convinced him to use his cane when it was necessary.
On a professional level, he expanded his career beyond the borders of Chastain. In previous seasons, he was the king of TV. In Season 5, he gave politics a chance.
Bell joined the medical board and realized how badly some patients were being treated. He made it his goal during the season to care for patients discarded by the board — a complete 180 turn from who he used to be in The Resident Season 1.

As separate individuals, they continued to thrive and grow in their careers, but as a couple, they also made moves.
On The Resident Season 5 Episode 20, “Fork in the Road,” the couple got engaged after going through many emotional moments of their lives together. They shared a house, a pandemic, and a grandchild, so it made sense a wedding was the next step.
At the end of the season, they were seen celebrating with their friends. The Resident Season 6 will finally let fans celebrate this couple as they get married.
Conrad Hawkins
The Resident Season 5 was particularly emotional for Conrad Hawkins as he deals with the death of his wife during The Resident Season 5 Episode 3, “The Long and Winding Road.” This loss set him up as a single father who had to learn how to navigate life.
Although many expected to see Conrad with his baby girl, the series surprised viewers with a four-year time jump. During that time, Hawkins had left Chastain and was working independently. However, that didn’t last much longer as Voss and Bell convinced him to return.

Dealing with parenthood and losing his wife weren’t the only issues Conrad faced. Love was a big theme for this doctor.
Everyone around him kept encouraging him to go back into the dating world. Although he wasn’t sure, he began by going out a few times with Gigi’s teacher. Nothing evolved from these outings.
However, fans became more excited when Cade Sullivan joined the show. At first, it was an exciting adventure. Hawkins and Sullivan worked with the FBI to bring down the people who had been using Conrad’s name to sell prescription medications.
During this case, Cade was shot and treated at Chastain. At that time, signs of something more happening between the two showed up. Cade had feelings for Conrad, but was it mutual?

The Resident Season 5 finale brought back Nic Nevin through flashbacks. As we saw how her relationship with Conrad started, we were prepared to watch him take the next step.
However, as many may have thought that the next step was with Cade, The Resident Season 5 left us hanging. There were also signs that something may happen between Conrad and Billie, Nic’s best friend.
Billie Sutton
Billie Sutton joined the show when Nic was still pregnant, and she remained even after her best friend passed away. Her introduction was a bit chaotic as her past followed her everywhere. However, Kit trusted her and gave her a place at Chastain.
On The Resident Season 5 Episode 2, “No Good Deed,” we found out Billie had a son she gave up for adoption. Her son came in with a friend who needed help, and her reaction threw everyone off.
However, as the season developed, Billie shared her story, telling The Raptor that her son was the product of a sexual assault. She didn’t want to mix her personal life with her professional life, but that didn’t last long.

After the time jump, we discovered Billie’s son, Trevor, was working at Chastain. Although he believed he got in because of a recommendation from The Raptor, the truth is his mother recommended him.
Their relationship got rocky when Billie decided to come forward about her assault, revealing the assailant was a renowned doctor. With Voss and Bell’s support, she made a statement in front of the board.
Trevor showed up to support her. Although they didn’t know what it would mean for their relationship, they continued to show up for each other in times of need.
As she navigated these uncertain times, Billie was also faced with her feelings for Conrad.
Devon Pravesh and Leela Devi
Devon and Leela quickly became a fan-favorite couple. However, The Resident Season 5 took them for a spin, making fans doubt whether they would make it or not.
As a doctor, Leela was seen trying to pursue different specialties simultaneously. Although everyone told her this would be impossible, she continued to fight for it. This brought her some problems as she became exhausted and made mistakes in a few cases.
Her life was turned around when her twin sister asked her to donate her eggs to become a mother. Leela initially had her worries but agreed to do it for her sister. However, this brought tension to her relationship.

At the same time, Devon became involved in a research and trial program that he began developing at Chastain. Throughout Season 5, we saw his research do good, which led to other hospitals seeking him out.
His decision to leave Chastain became more evident after his breakup with Leela. Devon had suggested becoming the sperm donor for her sister — something she immediately said no to. But this led to a more complicated conversation.
Although Devon was sure he wanted to have kids, Leela wasn’t on the same page. Before the end of the season, Devon turned down his job offer, and the two of them decided to try and figure out their relationship.
The Raptor
The Resident Season 5 was an emotional one for The Raptor, AJ Austin, as he dealt with the loss of his mother and the decision to become a father.

Throughout the season, AJ was seen dealing with his mother’s illness. He tried everything he could to help her get better, but in the end, they realized the best was to make her comfortable during her last days.
On The Resident Season 5 Episode 19, “All We Have Is Now,” he said goodbye. The episode showed him at home taking care of his mother, talking about their past, before she inevitably passed away. This left AJ lost.
Upon returning to Chastain, he accepted Padma’s request to be her sperm donor. However, The Raptor wants to become a father, so he agreed with the condition that he would be involved in the baby’s life.
During The Resident Season 5 Episode 23, “Neon Moon,” the two found out they are having twins, opening a million possibilities for The Resident Season 6.
Other Moments to Remember
- Cade’s relationship with her father was touched upon a little after her accident, revealing how complicated it was.
- Dr. Ian Sullivan was diagnosed with cancer towards the end of The Resident Season 5. This will probably be revisited during The Resident Season 6 as Andrew McCarthy becomes a series regular.
