The Mighty Ducks: Game-Changers returns to Disney Plus this week. Before the new season, catch up on all the major moments, especially how the Don’t Bothers officially became The Mighty Ducks.

Evan Gets Kicked Off The Mighty Ducks

The Mighty Ducks: Game-Changers starts with Evan being kicked off the Mighty Ducks for not performing well enough to advance to the 12-14 age group. Alex also feels pressure from the other Ducks’ parents for not being a super mom. After Evan is kicked off the Ducks, Alex declares that she’s going to start a new team.

Her aim is to create something that’s not too stressful and all about fun — basically the opposite of the current Mighty Ducks. Forming a new team isn’t as easy as Alex expects.

They first need to find a team, and Alex needs to learn how to coach.

The Don’t Bothers team begins to form when Nick and a new Canadian neighbor named Logan join it. Despite being from the land of hockey, Logan cannot play it nor can he skate.

Evan tries to recruit several players, including Koob and Sam. They both decline. However, a passionate lunchroom speech from Evans sparks several students to join the Don’t Bothers.

Alex also finds the Ice Palace and wants the team to practice there. However, she meets Gordon Bombay, the owner of it. He tells her that he doesn’t like kids or hockey, so it’s a no.

Fans of The Mighty Ducks films know that that’s a lie. Alex changes Bombay’s mind when she tells him that she found a city surplus for youth hockey and can pay him a lot to rent out the Ice Palace for practices.

Bombay Gets Involved

Much like with the original Ducks, Bombay is reluctant to help the team. However, when Evan recognizes him as THE Gordon Bombay who created the Ducks, he practically begs him to help Alex figure out this coaching thing. At first, Alex takes a too relaxed approach to coaching.

Evan needs her to find a winning spirit.

Bombay holds off on helping Alex for a while, but he encourages her by telling her that she already has coach instincts. This helps her build confidence.

The confidence boosters make Alex a better coach.

After repeated losses, Bombay slips a play in Alex’s notebook that helps the team finally score a goal. He denies helping her.

However, after some pushing, he admits to what happened with his career. He reveals that he created a really successful hockey college program. But, he got fired.

Bombay lost his job when he gave money to a kid who couldn’t afford some of the equipment. This goes against recruitment rules. That’s when he gave up on hockey.

Alex then offers a speech about not letting setbacks stop you from pursuing things you love, getting up every day, and fighting for life. This leads to Bombay actively helping Alex coach the Don’t Bothers.

Sofi Becomes The Key to The Don’t Bothers Success

Evan and the Don’t Bothers decide that they need Sofi on their team to have a chance to win some games. Sofi declines as a part of the Ducks. Evan and the Don’t Bothers try unsuccessfully to recruit her.

However, after realizing the stress of being a member of the Mighty Ducks, and not liking their jerky behavior, she joins the Don’t Bothers.

The only problem is that her parents won’t let her quit the Ducks to become a Don’t Bothers player. Secretly, she plays for both teams. Then her parents discover her lie and want her back on the Ducks.

There is a big upcoming skill challenge between the Mighty Ducks moms and the Don’t Bothers moms. Sofi makes the competition even more interesting.

She says that if the Don’t Bothers moms win, she gets to join their team. If the Ducks moms win, she drops the idea of joining the Don’t Bothers.

It all comes down to a slap-shot contest between Stephanie and Alex. After some weaker shots, Alex gives it her all on the final shot. The crowd goes wild, as she seemingly wins.

However, due to a technicality, Alex loses and Stephanie wins. This means that the Ducks win. This also means that Sofi must stay on their team.

However, Sofi’s father notices how happy she was when she thought the Don’t Bothers won versus her disappointment with the Ducks winning. He lets her play for the Don’t Bothers.

With Sofi off the team, and another Ducks player injured, Coach T invites Evan back on the Ducks. He is also surprised by how good Evan has been playing on the Don’t Bothers. Evan considers it but ultimately decides to stick with the Don’t Bothers.

However, the Don’t Bothers find out and it causes tension within the team. After some unsuccessful attempts to get the team to forgive Evan and make up, Bombay forces the team to do some team building exercises.

These exercises and Evan constantly apologizing, finally, get the Don’t Bothers on the same track.

Alex Becomes Like Coach T

The Don’t Bothers go on a winning streak. This makes Alex drunk with success. It inspires new confidence in her but also unleashes a bit of a monster. The Don’t Bothers have a big game that will take them to the Minnesota State Championship if they win.

Logan has been one of the weaker players on the team all season, but Bombay takes some time to really coach him. During the big game, Bombay thinks it’s time for Logan to get his chance to show his improvement.

Alex doesn’t want to play him and risk losing. The Don’t Bothers get a little sneaky and distract Alex, so that Logan can sneak on the ice.

He scores the winning shot. Alex isn’t happy about the team not listening and makes a scene in the locker rooms. Evan knows he needs to fire his mom.

Evan fires Alex and Bombay steps in to coach at the Minnesota State Championship.

In between their games, Bombay takes some pity on Coach T because he understands the pressure of coaching a winning team. He reveals what happened to his career and how he got banned from the league.

Coach T being a Disney villain, he reports Bombay. Now Bombay is about to be banned from coaching the Don’t Bothers. However, Evan calls his mother and tells her about Bombay’s hearing.

She rushes to help him.

The board rules that Bombay can’t coach in the tournament, despite his passionate speech about the Don’t Bothers. However, Alex shows up.

She points out that the Don’t Bothers don’t technically meet the NCAA certification guidelines, and therefore, they don’t need a certified coach. Coach Bombay’s ban is lifted.

During the tournament, Bombay and Alex coach the team together. They end up making it to the final match against the Ducks.

Sofi gets injured. She wants to keep playing because if she quits, the whole team has to forfeit. Sofi doesn’t want to let the team down.

Evan and the other Don’t Bothers step up and say they’ll quit so she doesn’t have to feel like she let them down. The Ducks win the Minnesota State Championship because the Don’t Bothers can’t play.

The Don’t Bothers Become The Mighty Ducks

After the game, the Ducks and Don’t Bothers agree to an unofficial match. If the Ducks win, the Don’t Bothers have to stop playing permanently. If the Don’t Bothers win, they get the Mighty Ducks’ name.

The Don’t Bothers win. However, Coach T tries to back out of the agreement, until Stephanie comes to their aid. The Don’t Bothers become the Mighty Ducks.
