Preview — New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 1: TBD

New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 1, “TBD,” is going to be a tough one for the DamFam. New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 22, “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” left us all reeling. It’s difficult to see how the show can pick itself up after that. 

Before the new season begins, Freema Agyeman not returning for the final season is going to change this show for the worse. Sharpwin was always New Amsterdam at its best, and it’s devastating that Helen and Max have to end so abruptly. 

The good news is that Sandra Mae Frank will be returning as a series regular, as previously reported. Her character, Dr. Elizabeth Wilder, is a force of nature, and the show will need so much more of her.

There seems to be at least something of a time jump, with Luna looking as adorable as ever. Max is always at his best when he’s a dad, and he’s going to bring that energy to this season. 

Iggy looks like he’ll be taking on a larger role, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. This has always been a character with potential. If continues to give terrible medical advice as he did last season, however, he should probably take a seat. 

It also looks like there might be the potential for some Lauren and Floyd action. While this would bring their relationship full circle, it would be a very odd choice, considering everything these characters have been through together and individually. 

It can’t all be bad news for NBC’s flagship medical drama as it begins its final chapter. This series has always had the potential to be the best American network medical drama since E.R. 

However, if the final season of New Amsterdam features more of Iggy and less Dr. Elizabeth Wilder, we may be truly doomed.
