Home Economics Season 3 Episode 1 Review: Mickey Ears, $19.99
It’s Hayworth family fun and feuds at the happiest place on Earth on Home Economics Season 3 Episode 1, “Mickey Ears, $19.99.”
The siblings are back and they’re already fighting.
It’s Tom (Topher Grace) versus Connor (Jimmy Tatro) when it’s revealed that Connor is, in fact, Hans Dutchman, owner of the Dutch media firm that saved Tom’s publisher from bankruptcy. He is both his big bro’s savior and source of stress, not to mention it’s a fairly big secret to keep from a brother.

Connor intends to break the news lightly when Tom is in a good mood, however, that’s not very often.
So, Connor does what he does best when faced with a problem: throw money at it. He takes the entire family to the happiest place on Earth in hopes of getting Tom to “peak happiness.”
It doesn’t work, obviously, but it does lead to a great twist on Star Wars and the “I am your father” scene.
Tom: It’s like at every turn, you want me to fail.
Connor: You don’t know what you’re saying right now, man.
[Light saber fighting]
Connor: Tom, I am your publisher.
Tom: Noooooo!
It’s a well done homage that even includes Chewie.

This is a tiff among brothers that takes into account the growth of their relationship since Season 1. It’s really fun to just sit back and watch as it plays out, knowing the brothers will be solid by the end.
Sarah (Caitlin McGee), the only Hayworth sister, inadvertently picks a fight with her wife, Denise (Sasheer Zamata). The usually strong and in-sync couple find out they’re not on the same page when it comes to their daughter attending the elite school at which Sarah works, which was an early Season 2 development.

I don’t like to see mommy and mommy fight, especially over something as valued as their liberalism. As much as I relate to Sarah on an insane level, I feel the sting when she accuses Denise of being a “bad liberal.”
That’s too far.
But just as I don’t have to worry about Tom and Connor reconciling, I know Sarah and Denise will make up in a loving and practical way.

They ask Shamiah (Jordyn Curet) what she wants to do. And Sarah is accepting of her decision to attend Windmount Academy. I see some good storyline potential here with Shamiah going to school with her younger cousin and her mom as the guidance counselor.
It’s a fun first outing for the series’ third season. I’m glad the Hayworths are back.
