Evil Season 3 Episode 10 Review: The Demon of the End

Evil, Reviews

There’s no rest for the wicked or the good on Evil Season 3 Episode 10, “The Demon of the End.” Following Montsignor’s murder, the team quickly gets assigned a new case that hits close to home – literally.

In case you forgot about the toilet demon (trademark pending), it’s back with a vengeance but this time it’s haunting Kristen’s neighbors. That poor unlucky family on the other side of the duplex is getting Kristen’s leftover demons.

On its own, it’s a good case of the week, but it’s easily overwhelmed by all the other plot lines the finale rushes to wrap up. Like the fate of Andy Bouchard for one.

The good news is that due to some quick thinking by Kristen’s daughters, Sheryl has to spare Andy’s life. Messaging Leland on the game they use and the alert noise coming up during Kristen’s video call with Andy’s boss is enough pressure for Sheryl to abort her plan to murder Andy.

Of course, Kristen is just happy that Andy didn’t die in an avalanche, but you’d think she’d take a moment to consider some of the glaring plot holes in Edward’s story. Andy makes it home less than 24 hours later despite having been missing on Mount Everest and viewers know he’s missing more than just a memory of the “accident.”

Andy’s kidnapping is one of the scariest plots of the season because it goes to show how easily even Kristen can still be tricked, and by her own mother nonetheless. Kristen is a badass but the forces she, David, and Ben are up against still seem insurmountable at times.

It’s an episode that will have you checking the clock, not because it’s dragging on too slow but because so much happens you can’t believe there’s still more in store. From Andy’s return to the surprise about Kristen’s missing egg, the episode covers a lot of ground.

Although Evil loves to play coy, I’m happy we get at least a few answers on this episode (even when the answers set up more questions). The action-packed pacing feels like it’s making up for some of Season 3’s more plodding episodes that offered little resolution.

Unfortunately, Ben doesn’t get too much to do on this episode but his friendship with Kristen’s daughters always makes for heartwarming scenes. Although the chattering children may be divisive among fans, I am firmly Team Bouchard Girls.

Surprisingly, he and Kristen seem to ignore the daughters’ suggestions that Leland had something to do with Andy going missing. Normally both are quick to blame things on Leland, yet this thread is dropped.

Clearly with Andy being able to see demons now and Sheryl’s nervous glances around him after he almost regains his memory, this is not the end of his role in the family’s battle versus evil. Maybe he will be the one to believe the girls about what happened to him.

Speaking of the scene where Andy walks in on the convening of the demons, seeing all of them in one space reminds viewers of what great work Evil is doing in terms of creature design. Thank goodness this show is on a streaming service and you can watch it during the day if you choose.

Sister Andrea is another character whose importance has only grown this season. Watching her walk through the house and bludgeoning an infestation of demons with a shovel while doling out advice to Lynn is the perfect encapsulation of the character’s no-nonsense toughness.

That said, her presence raises questions about why no one in this trio bothered to get real help all season with the demons plaguing them whether it be the toilet demon or David’s sex demon. Yes, they have a lot going on but it seems downright silly they spend all day fixing other people’s demonic problems while ignoring their own.

As fascinating as the concept of DF Global is, especially Sheryl’s role in the company, the finale seems to indicate that ultimately the show’s interest remains more with Kristen’s individual battle between good and evil than the bigger Entity-level battle.

She is less of the main focus in this season than in Season 2, yet the storyline of her missing egg and the reveal that Leland used it for himself with a surrogate is what we end on. Body horror at its foundation is about a lack of control of the body, so to have Kristen’s egg continue to be used for such nefarious purposes without her even knowing takes that to an extreme.

Combining that with her existential crisis over whether to believe in God now since he “saved” Andy, it seems like the battle for Kristen’s soul is far from over. Evil isn’t big on answering questions outright, but if you believe David then God keeps revealing himself to her.

Is the revelation that she is having a child with Leland enough to get her to listen or will she lose faith entirely in Season 4?
