Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke Team Up to ‘Do Revenge’
Netflix’s Do Revenge showcases the highs and lows of teen drama with an all-star cast and a sugary-sweet color palette in the film’s first trailer.
The dark comedy from Jennifer Kayton Robinson and her collaborator Celeste Ballar has plenty in its favor as it sees Riverdale‘s Camila Mendes and Stranger Things‘ Maya Hawke team up to take down each other’s “tormentors.”

As Netflix’s Tudum reports, “The Strangers on a Train–esque thriller follows what happens after a clandestine meet-cute between fallen it-girl Drea (Mendes) and beta, new alt-girl Eleanor (Hawke).”
Drea’s bully is her fake-woke ex-boyfriend Max, played by Euphoria‘s Austin Abrams. Eleanor’s summer camp bully is Clarissa, played by Love Victor‘s Ava Capri. Those names are only the beginning of the Do Revenge cast!
The all-star cast also includes 13 Reason’s Why‘s Alisha Boe, Ms. Marvel‘s Rish Shah, Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between‘s Talia Ryder, Outer Banks‘ Jonathan Daviss, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin‘s Maia Reficco, Alex and Katie‘s Paris Berelc, and Game of Thrones‘s Sophie Turner.

In many ways, the Netflix film’s trailer channels classic ’80s and ’90s teen films, like Heathers and Clueless, all while aligning with the tone of recent young-adult, snappy shows like Scream Queens.
Jennifer Kayton Robinson told Vanity Fair about Do Revenge‘s influences, stating she wanted to explore “the angst and trauma of existing when you’re a teenage girl while also bringing back the style and tone of the high school movies I grew up loving.”
She went on to promise “easter eggs all over the film as a nod to these movies.” Vanity Fair notes the trailer’s croquet shot that pays homage to Heathers.
Likewise, Drea giving Eleanor a makeover to fit in with Max and his friends seems like a direct reference to Cady Heron in Mean Girls.

Also, with a cast that has appeared on nearly every popular teen show from the last decade, it’s more than likely that Do Revenge could contain nods to those shows when it debuts on the streaming service next month.
Regardless, Do Revenge‘s tone, costumes, sets, and music set it apart in the young-adult genre. Tudum revealed that the Gossip Girl music supervisor Rob Lowry curated the soundtrack, while the score helms by the eldest Haim sister, Este Haim, with composer Amanda Yamate.
All of these moving parts contribute to Do Revenge‘s timeless appeal that the trailer advertises with vibrant colors, snarky dialogue, and the message that nothing is scarier or more powerful than a teenage girl.
