Ghosts Season 2 First Look: Can Jay See Spirits Now?
Despite departing on hiatus for the summer, Ghosts has extended its stay at the Woodstone Mansion with a “Summer of Ghosts” promotional tour.
This tour recently included a stop at San Diego Comic Con, where the show immersed fans in a Pete-themed pop-up and Q&A panel with the cast and creators. During the panel, attendees were treated to a sneak peek at Season 2.
The brief clip, now released to the public, shows us the aftermath of Jay’s nasty “Farnsby & B” fall and hints at a future where Sam’s husband can also see spirits — but not all is what it seems.

The clip kicks off with Isaac dropping a savage remark about “being weightless” after Sam and Jay almost bite the dust falling through the floor.
Solid form from the ghosts out of the gate!
Then we are transported to the next scene, where Jay lies in bed alive and unharmed. We all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Sam asks Jay how he’s feeling. Her husband rubs his neck as he responds, “I’m okay. It’s just, I hit my head really hard.”
As Sam looks on sympathetically, a realization dawns on Jay’s face. “Do you think I can see them?” he asks Sam, referring to the ghosts his wife talks to on the daily. “When you hit your head, you could see ghosts.”
Jay proceeds to run around the house, calling out the ghosts’ names with an adorable grin on his face and the biggest “kid on Christmas day” energy.
It’s important to note he has all their names committed to memory except for Trevor, who he refers to as “No Pants.”
As he descends the stairs and his eyes land on the main living room, the ghosts’ favorite communal space, he stops dead at something out of frame. We may not see what the something is, but we get an agonizing “Oh my God!” from Jay.
So does this outcome mean Jay can see the spirits now? That’s the beauty of the sitcom’s chaotic supernatural premise, this tease could mean anything.
Giving Jay the ability to see ghosts would change the fabric of the show, something Ghosts is not afraid to do to keep its guests on their toes (re: establishing hell exists.)

It would also mean swapping out Jay’s comedy wheelhouse for new material.
That said, Jay’s “Oh my God’ could just as easily be directed at a leak in the ceiling or an impromptu game of D&D set up in the living room.
In an interview with TVLine after the season finale, creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman kept any details surrounding Jay’s potential to see ghosts vague.
“I guess anything’s possible on this show. If people want to speculate, I’m not going to ruin any sort of speculation that people want to do,” said Wiseman.
“We have a term in writing in sitcom rooms called schmuckbait. It means like something that is a cliffhanger that could never happen — like the main character dying,” explained Port. “Now that doesn’t mean that we’re doing that with Jay at this moment. But I’m just saying there’s a higher bar for schmuckbait on this show.”

The rest of the sneak peek gave fans an update on Woodstone Mansion’s B&B. Despite the setbacks Sam and Jay have endured, the opening will proceed as planned when the show returns this fall.
“As you all know, our first guests, not including the ones that left after the floor collapsed, will be arriving at any moment,” announces Sam.
“Please be young and hot. Please be young and hot,” Trevor chants, elbowing Pete.
While this first look suggests massive life changes could be coming Jay’s way, it’s good to know some things will never change. Particularly Trevor’s ability to make everything sexual.
We’ll have to wait and see what spooky twists Ghosts scares up for us in Season 2.
