Evil Season 3 Episode 8 Review: The Demon of Motherhood
David’s continued quest to bring Grace back finally comes to an exciting conclusion. With Evil Season 3 Episode 8, “The Demon of Motherhood” we learn that Grace is alive and well after all this time living in unknowns.
More importantly than the updates on Grace are the developments happening to Kristen. Her night terrors are back but now they also include Lexis — talk about freaky.
These new develops come in at the exact right time to ensure this season continues to get more and more complicated, but also exciting. As we start to wind things down, it’s the perfect mix of mundane and complex.
The Quest for Grace

Ever since Grace disappeared during Season 1, audiences and the gang alike have wondered about her safety and location. While we never really do get a straight answer about where she has been held all this time — insert something vague about China here — we do finally get to see her alive and in good spirits.
David is trying his best to give Laconte the information he desperately wants while also trying to keep the gang from catching on. It’s been a struggle all season, but now more than ever his secrecy is necessary.
The depth and strength of David’s faith is continuously put to the test because of Laconte. Now, David is finding out that he knows more than Laconte and is being dismissed entirely by this man.
David isn’t one to show his emotions freely or even speak about his truest desires, but this assignment with Friends of the Vatican has pushed him to express more.
Now, he is showing his frustration with Laconte freely — which is a fantastic development for his character. It’s been fairly solid for the whole series — not really faltering from his rigid allowances and his strict faith.
His admission to Kristen that he loves her but that he loves God more is further proof that he’s learning how to better balance his emotions and his stoicism. This task to save Grace has helped him find his own personal grace.
Kristen’s Motherhood Woes

Not only is Kristen continuing to juggle her four daughters single-handedly, but now she is fighting RSM to locate that missing embryo she found out about. It’s been said that sometimes it’s better to leave things alone — I truly feel she should’ve just left things alone.
Does it suck that one of her embryos has disappeared? Yes, definitely. However, that doesn’t mean she needed to dig further into what happened to it.
Everything that happens to Kristen on Evil is a result of her own actions. She brings so much extra on her shoulders because she insists on knowing more even when people are saying to leave well enough alone.
I’m not sure what she thinks could happen if she found where her egg went, especially after finding out it has already been implanted. Just knowing it now exists causes Kristen’s night terror to change into that of a demonic baby that she then allows to feed from her breast.
It wouldn’t come as a surprise moving forward if Kristen doesn’t start to sink further into the clutches of demonic actions. She’s already been susceptible to the likes of George — who is dominating her night terrors once more.
Dr. Boggs Slips Even Further

Leland isn’t holding back on his desire to control Dr. Boggs’ soul once and for all. I don’t know which is more evil, the demons or the person convincing people to allow the demon to possess them.
In the case of Dr. Boggs, Leland is definitely the more sinister entity. He knows Boggs has a weakness when it comes to solutions for completing his novel.
He also knows that Boggs is going to say yes to experiencing demonic possession if it will give him a leg up in the market. Boggs is motivated by money and fame which a demonic possession could definitely give him.
The really concerning part is that Boggs’ involvement with the demons and Leland is escalating quickly. Who’s to say Boggs will make it to the end of the season in one piece or even alive.
Letting demons in for the sake of his book isn’t going to end well no matter what the writers have in store for him. No one who’s been in contact with demons has ever been the same afterward.
Stray Thoughts:
- It’s interesting that Ben’s investigation of the toys further helps David without him even realizing.
- Also, Jack in the Box toys are freaky under normal circumstances so NO THANKS.
- Bringing Lexis to work with her and then conspiring with Leland afterward? The bond between Leland and Sheryl continues to get more convoluted the longer they know one another.
