‘A League of Their Own’ Teaser Trailer and Premiere Date Released by Prime Video

A League of Their Own, News

Batter up! It’s time to find your team with Prime Video’s series A League of Their Own.

All eight episodes of the show’s first season premiere Friday, August 12, on Prime Video. Obviously, there’s no crying in baseball, but the new teaser trailer for the series may make fans of the original film tear up from pure joy.

Penny Marshall’s film A League of Their Own was released in 1992 and quickly became a beloved sports movie. Likewise, the Prime Video TV series, based on the motion picture screenplay by Lowell Ganz & Babaloo Mandel and the story by Kim Wilson & Kelly Candaele, is well on its way to becoming a beloved sports show.

Per the description, “A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball.”

“The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.”

Further diversifying the characters at the heart of the Rockford Peaches has always been a goal for co-creators Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, as they exclusively told Entertainment Weekly in May

A bulk of the teaser trailer, set to Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” focuses on Chanté Adams as Max. “Max’s character is based on the three women who ended up playing with men, which is an unbelievable story for all three of them,” Jacobson told EW.

“The more research we did and the more we expanded these characters, the more exciting it became to tell their stories with a modern lens,” Jacobson added. That modern lens also encompasses LGBTQ+ stories. Did everyone catch the sparks between Abbi Jacobson’s Carson and D’Arcy Carden’s Greta?

“Here, this is a story about people who maybe didn’t fall in love with the people the world wanted them to, but they had a dream, and they found a way to fall in love and do the thing they wanted to do. That’s as heroic and amazing and still as relevant now as it was in 1992 or in 1942,” Will Graham shared.

So, A League of Their Own isn’t a carbon copy of the famous film, but it will also cover important topics with a brand new team of characters. This all-female baseball team has captured hearts since 1992; there’s no doubt the Rockford Peaches will be able to do it again!

A League of Their Own also stars Gbemisola Ikumelo as Clance, Roberta Colindrez as Lupe, Nick Offerman as Dove, Saidah Arrika Ekulona as Toni, Kate Berlant as Shirley, Kendall Johnson as Gary, Kelly McCormack as Jess, Alex Désert as Edgar, Priscilla Delgado as Esti, Aaron Jennings as Guy, Molly Ephraim as Maybelle, Melanie Field as Jo, Dale Dickey as Beverly.

A League of Their Own is from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with Field Trip Productions. The series is co-created and executive produced by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson. Field Trip’s Hailey Wierengo and Desta Tedros Reff also serve as executive producers. Jamie Babbit directed the pilot and also serves as executive producer.
