‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ Renewed for Season 4 on HBO

Fans of A Black Lady Sketch Show, rejoice!

HBO has renewed the Emmy-winning show for a fourth season. A Black Lady Sketch Show Season 3 concluded on HBO on May 13.

The series was created by Robin Thede. Thede is a star in the series and serves as writer and executive producer. A Black Lady Sketch Show also stars Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Skye Townsend. 

The show has seen such versatile guest stars as Angela Bassett, Laverne Cox, Ava DuVernay, Gabrielle Union, and Lena Waithe. Each episode features the main cast and guests constructing hilarious skits around everyday observations. 

The situations featured in the sketches range from being grounded in reality to aspirational and utopic. The show has put Black culture squarely in the spotlight since its inception.  

A Black Lady Sketch Show has become known for its subversive comedy. It has made a point of celebrating and highlighting Black women in each episode, in front of and behind the cameras. 

A Black Lady Sketch Show has also been held up as a strong example of the kind of representation needed, particularly in comedy which remains dominated by white men. 

Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming shared sentiments about the show’s success. “Robin, Gabrielle, Ashley, and Skye brought so much life to each character they portrayed in every sketch,” Gravitt said.

“We’re beyond excited to explore even more comedic worlds with a fourth season of A Black Lady Sketch Show,” she added.

Robin Thede also released a statement expressing her excitement about the series’ renewal. “A Black Lady Sketch Show has created an indelible mark thanks to the trust and support of the incredible team at HBO,” Thede said.

“We are ecstatic to be heading into a fourth season that means so much to our cast, crew, and the dedicated audience who so passionately loves our show,” Thede continued.

A Black Lady Sketch Show has proven itself critically, winning and being nominated for numerous industry awards. Season 4 will provide even more opportunities for this group to provide cultural commentary in a comedic way.
