The Conners Review: A Judge and A Priest Walk Into A Living Room (Season 4 Episode 20)
The one thing the Conner family is good at is making sure they always feel the love — even if it’s caught behind layers of sarcasm. This is what makes The Conners Season 4 Episode 20, “A Judge and A Priest Walk Into A Living Room” so special.
Not only is this episode all about two couples finally finding the love they all deserve. It’s also a testament to everything great about the Conner clan.
The wedding may be bringing the whole family together in a true finale style, but there are some minor issues that also take away from this being a truly perfect episode.
And no, we aren’t talking about the clown opera singer.
Becky Feeling Left Out?

LECY GORANSON, SARA GILBERT
Becky Conner has never been much for overly clingy moments. Sure, she is definitely more touchy, feely than her sister Darlene, but never clingy.
However, during this episode she suddenly can’t stop being clingy about everything from the new house to her sister to feelings about her sister and the new house. It’s definitely off-putting to see her this vulnerable because she’s not normally like this.
I am sure the writers were trying to convey that Becky sees how big of a moment this is for Darlene, but can’t help feeling she’s being left behind. Unfortunately, it comes off a bit too clingy and just sits wrong with the viewers.
Becky could have the conversation she has about the new house and Darlene’s impending nuptials without also adding in a very awkward hug to the mix. It’s definitely there to try and break up the serious with some funny, but it doesn’t translate well.
Honestly, it’s unsure how the situation could have been less awkward. It’s important that Becky look for that intimacy with her sister on her important day, but maybe not beg for validation beforehand? I’m really not sure.
Harris and Aldo

TONY CAVALERO
The whole situation with Harris and Aldo has been a weird story from the start. To add to it, on The Conners Season 4 Episode 19, “Three Ring Circus,” their relationship seems to take a hit when they realize they aren’t on the same page about having children.
Going into this season finale, it would seem that Harris and Aldo wouldn’t still be moving toward marriage. However, they are and it’s actually quite awkward.
At the very least they should’ve called off their engagement prior to the day before. It doesn’t make much sense for Harris to finally put her foot down after Aldo changes their wedding registry to a baby shower registry.
It is great that she finally breaks things off with him because he is holding her back from her full potential. However, this should’ve happened ages ago when Aldo’s first red flag is revealed or even at the end of “Three Ring Circus” when he reveals what he wants for her.
It’s going to be interesting to see where Harris takes her newfound freedom in the coming season because she deserves it. Her growth this season has been a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one nonetheless.
The Vows

NAT FAXON, PUDDLES, JAY R. FERGUSON, JOHN GOODMAN, AMES MCNAMARA
Ultimately, this episode is a love letter to the fans. We have been there through it all from Roseanne to now with The Conners.
This wedding is definitely a huge payoff for the Jackie fans out there. She’s struggled so much in her life to find someone who is just as weird, and quirky, and as willing to face off against Beverly as her.
Jackie has found that in Neville and to see them vow before god, a judge, and a clown that they will honor each other for all time is bringing a tear to everyone’s eye. They deserve all the happiness in the world because that’s all they ever bring us — happiness and laughs. They’ve fought for this.

JAY R. FERGUSON, JOHN GOODMAN, AMES MCNAMARA
Darlene and Ben have fought for their marriage as well, and it’s apparent in their eyes how much it all means to them. They’ve struggled to really see each other as they are — not as they could be — all season long.
Going through the trenches together has made them so fun to watch from week to week. It’s been a fun roller coaster ride of “will they/won’t they” with the biggest of payouts in the end.
Ultimately, these two couples get exactly what they want. A chance to declare before everyone that they love their partner and always will no matter the hardship.
