Girls5Eva Review: Album Mode / Triumphant Return to the Studio / Who U Know (Season 2 Episodes 1-3)
Girls5Eva is back and just as fun as last season.
Girls5Eva Season 2 Episodes 1-3, “Album Mode,” “Triumphant Return to the Studio,” and “Who U Know,” picks right back up where season 1 left off.
Dawn (Sara Bareilles), Summer (Busy Philipps), Wickie (Renee Elise Goldsberry), and Gloria (Paula Pell) continue their journey to regain their lost fame. It starts with an album deal with Property Records.

Yes, Property Records is a company created by the Property Brothers (Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott). As Tate (Grey Henson) mentions everyone is doing whatever the heck they want now.
This development of the Property Brothers having a record company (and a country album) is just the kind of pop culture satirizing that makes Girls5Eva so enjoyable. The hits keep coming as Wickie uses the celebrity dating app, Raya, to dump “celebrities.”
This plot results in a wonderful cameo by Tim Meadows, and a really random, but equally as entertaining, cameo by Joey Sasso, The Circle Season 1 winner.
The best ongoing gag and pop culture reference throughout the first three episodes is the mention of Carson Daly. Apparently, at some point, all of Girls5Eva married him.

The season definitely needs a Carson Daly cameo at some point.
Girls5Eva’s first three episodes do a good job of introducing viewers to possible new recurring characters. Ray (Piter Marek) edges on the line between ridiculous and sensible.
It should be fun to watch this character’s evolution. Does he become more over the top as the season progresses, or does he stay at a middle ground between crazy and normal?
Tate may have only been on the premiere episode, but hopefully, we see more of him. His whole persona could be really fun to watch in very silly or stressful situations.

Kev (Andrew Rannells) may appear more this season than last season because he is a new resident in Summer’s basement. This makes me very happy. Summer and Kev’s interactions are so fun to watch.
I could watch them go back and forth with “babe” forever.
The decision to not show Ashley (Ashley Park) that much in the first three episodes is an interesting choice, especially because the first season ends with Gloria’s conspiracy theory that she may be alive.
We know Gloria is a true crime fan, so it may just be her saying nonsense. However, I hope an episode in this season is dedicated to that theory.
Girls5Eva‘s main cast really commits to their ridiculous characters. Philipps and Goldsberry are really in top form. They give Emmy-level performances of their absolutely insane characters.
It’ll be a crime if they aren’t nominated next year.

At least one song on each of the first three episodes of Girls5Eva is catchy. Goldsberry and Bareilles singing their hearts out while saying these ridiculous lyrics is also a bright spot on the show.
Girls5Eva is just as silly as last season (so far), which makes it a nice way to relax and not think too much. Can’t wait to see the rest of the season.
