OBI-WAN KENOBI Celebrate Star Wars Day with the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer

Celebrate Star Wars Day with the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer

News

May the 4th be with us as we watch the first trailer for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars Day wouldn’t be complete without some fun surprises. So, it’s perfect for the celebratory day to begin with a closer look at the anticipated series.

This trailer takes us deeper into Obi-Wan’s life in exile as the Galactic Empire reigns. However, that’s not the only thing Obi-Wan Kenobi runs from in this limited series.

Darth Vader may hunt Obi-Wan (and any other remaining Jed), but Anakin Skywalker haunts Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins a decade after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, “where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

The official trailer leans into Obi-Wan and Anakin’s bond through the former’s evident grief for his Padawan. Obi-Wan appears torn between the brother he lost and the boy he can save — Luke.

Hence, Obi-Wan Kenobi marks the return of Joel Edgerton to the Star Wars franchise as Uncle Owen. Luke’s uncle is determined to protect his nephew, even by twisting the lightsaber Anakin left in Obi-Wan.

Edgerton isn’t the only actor returning from the prequel series alongside Ewan McGregor — who will once again become the iconic Jedi Master. In addition, Obi-Wan Kenobi will see Hayden Christensen return to the franchise in the role of Darth Vader.

It has been more than 20 years since McGregor made his Star Wars debut in Star Wars: Phantom Menace. Likewise, it has been almost exactly 20 years since Christensen’s Star Wars debut in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

The beloved duo will reunite for the first time on the small screen in the limited series. Christensen recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about putting on the iconic villain’s suit and reuniting with McGregor.

Christensen knew all too well to avoid spoilers, but he did share this with EW: “But I can tell you the first time that I saw Ewan as Obi-Wan again, that was a very special moment for me and one that I’ll remember for a very, very long time.”

Like Christensen, this trailer avoids all the massive spoilers by only teasing the actor’s time in the suit. We can’t be too mad since Obi-Wan Kenobi is only a few weeks away now. Plus, it’s Star Wars Day!

Nevertheless, it’s still surreal to know Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will share the screen once again — so many years later. Star Wars is magical in its unique timelessness in that way.

Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold.

Following its series premiere on Friday, May 27, Obi-Wan Kenobi streams weekly on Wednesdays until the finale on June 22.
