‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Gets New Premiere Date on Disney+

News

Hello there! Don’t ready your lightsabers just yet; Obi-Wan Kenobi has a new premiere date on Disney+.

The highly-anticipated Star Wars series will land on the streaming service two days later than it originally intended Wednesday, May 25.

We will reunite with Ewan McGregor as the titular character on Friday, May 27 now. But, there’s a surprise to come with that news that may initially seem like a bummer.

McGregor himself announces that the series premiere will include two episodes in the video below — rather than the original one. Subsequent episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will drop on Wednesdays.

Obi-Wan Kenoi is set 10 years after 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, making the series’ premiere date all the more fitting.

The film debuted in theaters on May 22, 2005, and the series will launch nearly on the film’s 17th Anniversary.

In that film, Obi-Wan “faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

McGregor reprises his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and the series will reunite him with his co-star Hayden Christensen who will make his return to the role of Darth Vader.

McGregor and Christensen’s reunion will surely break the internet!

Though, the internet may not even stand a chance on May 27 since Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t the only much-anticipated series to debut that day.

If that date looks familiar, it’s because that’s the day Stranger Things Season 4 debuts on Netflix. So, that Friday will undoubtedly be a day that spoilers will be unavoidable online — for both shows.

Obi-Wan Kenobi also stars Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

The series is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold.
