Miles Brown Talks ‘black-ish’ Memories | PaleyFest

black-ish, Interviews, PaleyFest

When I spoke to Miles Brown on the black-ish red carpet during PaleyFest, he was sporting a metallic jacket that reflected the light right back into my eyes. He apologized for blinding everyone, but for me, it felt perfectly fitting.

Miles Brown is a human bright light, profound in his words about what being on black-ish has meant to him, and it’s clear there is not a moment he’s taken for granted.

When I asked him what made him laugh most this season, I was surprised he didn’t have an answer. But he quickly explained why.

“It’s hard to laugh when it’s our final season. It’s a depressing statement! But I think looking back on all that we’ve done over the past 8 years is one of the most fun things. Taking in those memories we’ve made, always having those little jokes that we had together on set, those are the best moments,” Brown said.

Instead of the funny times, he was more interested in talking about what made him most proud about black-ish.

“There are so many times someone comes up to me with their whole family to say, ‘Hey, every Tuesday we watch your show, and you’re like a part of our family now. You’ve grown with us over the years.’ I think that’s the biggest compliment as an actor — to look back and realize you’ve had an impact on someone. And I’m always going to have that with people from the show, so that’s the proudest thing I have.”

Brown clearly doesn’t want to say goodbye to his character Jack, so I asked what his own “-ish” spinoff would be. He’s quick to clarify that he couldn’t do it without his on-screen twin, Marsai Martin.

“It would definitely have to be something with Marsai, something with the twins. Twin-ish? That would be awesome. I’m not confirming anything, but that would be crazy.”

When I suggested maybe the grown-ish torch could be passed to Jack, he was also keen on the idea. After Marcus Scribner has his turn as JR, of course.

“Yes! Because Marcus is taking over grown-ish, and that’s exciting. But I’m what — a junior now? That would be awesome in a few years.”
