Good Trouble Review: I Don’t Belong Here(Season 4 Episode 8)

Good Trouble, Reviews

Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 8, “I Don’t Belong Here,” blends mystery and intrigue and continues the show’s typical style of knowing nothing at the very beginning to always getting most of our questions answered by the end.

The vague opening of Joaquin’s nightmare paired with the current timeline of his character development only opens the box of wanting to know more.

It’s a smart choice to bring Joaquin and Marianna closer as well. Everyone else in the Coterie has their main person, so it’s only fair to give these two that opportunity to see how their stories will intertwine. It might be the perfect set-up for a romantic situation, or it could remain platonic, but either way, the duo is a good one.

Alice deciding not to tell her parents about the tour is confusing. She’s gotten so far by telling them why comedy means so much to her as well as coming out to them, and at this point, them not knowing will only be more harm than good to her.

After a lack of Gael and Isabella on Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 7, “Take These Chances,” it’s refreshing to see them now laughing and feeling more excited about this baby instead of stressed and jealous of each other and how they spent their time.

This fun-loving competitive nature is much more on point for these two. I’m happy they’re on a loving track once again, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their relationship escalated past friends.

It upsets me though, that after all the pair has been through, there are potential risks and issues this baby could have. Honestly, “I Don’t Belong Here” could have left out the hospital visit and stayed on the positive path, yet part of me thinks it would have also been too easy.

Without complications and struggles, each character would be happier, but there would be less room to grow and develop.

Luca and Davia’s chemistry is unmatched. They dance beautifully together and having his story fan out to more people than just Joaquin is brilliant.

The dance scene really incorporates the passion that Good Trouble easily creates as well as the thought that you can do more with your life than the hand you were dealt.

Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 8 also brings in the idea of new friendships and even a little extra unplanned flirting between Davia and Luca. Davia seems (mostly) unaware of it, but Luca is definitely getting a little swoony, and while he is ultimately great for boosting confidence, this should not take a romantic turn.

The use of the flashback for Alice to tell her story is so well done. There is so much buildup to her finally admitting what happened to her and it’s truly heartbreaking.

The conversation afterward about being Chinese American is so important, and it is moments like this where I forget that Good Trouble is a TV show and not real life. So many of the storylines happening on Season 4 are vulnerable, relatable, and impactful.

The focus on the potential loss of Gael and Isabella’s baby and Davia’s eating disorder are key moments. Davia is still learning to love herself and that journey is a constant one, but the encouragement from her burlesque teacher is so touching. The feeling of relief for this baby is palpable and heartwarming.

Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 7 really allowed us to see and feel the pain and difficulties these characters are going through, and it really makes the mystery of it all so worth it.

While “I Don’t Belong Here” focuses mainly on Davia and Gael and Isabella’s storylines, it includes a brief reveal of the Revitalize Beauty girls turning down their places at Bulk Beauty. Adding this into an episode that effortlessly approached vulnerabilities and struggles is random and could have waited for a future occurrence.

That being said, there were several pieces of advice given throughout Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 8 and it worked well not only for the characters but for the audience as well.
