Good Trouble Review: Take These Chances (Season 4 Episode 7)

Good Trouble, Reviews

Creepy insect hallucinations laughing at Alice while she does her stand-up set is certainly not how I expect Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 7, “Take These Chances,” to start, yet it does, and there is always a method to the madness.

Good Trouble  Season 4 Episode 7 brings up a lot of questions in regard to Alice, and the focus mainly falls on her, yet still highlights wins and losses for other characters.

Where she was previously so confident and excited to finally be representing more of the Asian community in stand-up comedy, “Take These Chances” is more of a downward anxiety swirl for her character as she admits she doesn’t want to do it anymore.

What happened on that tour is the biggest question I have. She is emotional, harsh, and panicky as she readjusts to her life in the Coterie, and this can’t be the end of comedy for her.

Alice is kind and rational, so her yelling and freaking out on everyone else doesn’t quite add up.

On the other hand, Marianna is killing it. She’s come so far by telling the truth to the Revitalize Beauty girls as well as convincing them to join the FCG. She could have left them to go under with Jackie, and I admire her female empowerment choices.

Good Trouble is a consistent back and forth on whether the characters will be facing ups or downs in their story and development. Davia backtracked a smidge on Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 6 “Something Unpredictable, but in the End It’s Right,” but her passion to help people returns on “Take These Chances” when she seeks out Luca to share a job opportunity.

What is even better is that this job is a spot as a dancer for the burlesque ensemble Davia has joined. Luca can dance (clearly), and after the routine display from Good Trouble Season 4 Episode 5, I would not be opposed to more dancing going forward.

Yikes! I knew that Malika’s “secret” (secret from Lucia anyway) relationship with Angelica was not going to be good for her in the work sphere. Her proposal gets rejected by both council members, and, wow, Lucia is definitely taking the lying personally.

Malika going over Lucia’s head may not have been the best move, but it does assert her dominance and willingness to stand her ground.

Besides the fact that Alice is going through a bit of a crisis/breakdown with all the ant drama, Marianna and Luca are continuing to make moves (literally).

Marianna is keeping all the girls afloat and with Raisa and Ava joining FCG; it’s only fair that going forward, Miss Thang should gain more recognition for all her accomplishments.

WOW! Watching Luca dance is giving me full-on heart palpitations. He is good, and he knows it too.

Take These Chances” is tame and encompasses subtle drama until Joaquin explodes on Chris. He is slowly obtaining more clues about Jenna, and Dennis proves to be quite helpful in sharing things about her when he first started living at the Coterie.

Joaquin’s whole purpose is to find his sister, so it isn’t unexpected for him to be angry and fearful. Other than his journalistic background, Jenna is the only storyline of his we can land on so far.

“Take These Chances” is also relatively quiet; Gael and Isabella aren’t present either.

However, the last 10 minutes get interesting when Liza reveals that she’s working with Jackie (wow, big shocker there, not!) Malika tells Deyonte that it’s too soon to be each other’s primaries, and I really respect her for that, and Joaquin ultimately comes to Marianna to talk about his past.

I admire Joaquin for opening up about his upbringing; it was perfect timing, and it finally brings in that emotional side I know I’ve been waiting for from him.

Stray thoughts:
  • We still need answers from Alice, and her parents are involved, which is unexpected.
  • Marianna and Malika ultimately need to watch their backs in terms of their careers.
  • I love that Davia and Dennis found Luca together!
