Killing Eve Review: Don’t Get Eaten (Season 4 Episode 2)
Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 2, “Don’t Get Eaten,” continues at a relentlessly slow pace as our main characters continue to operate separately.
It feels more and more like the show is dancing around the conclusion that it wants to give viewers as Eve progresses toward the Twelve, and Villanelle attempts to find herself. Individually, the stories are fascinating, but they lack the same dynamics as when these characters are together.

We are pushing towards the series finale and it feels like a big mistake to have a show with such short seasons keep their main characters apart for as long as Killing Eve tends to.
“Don’t Get Eaten” is not without its noteworthy moments. For example, Villanelle talking out her spiritual awakening with her vision only to kill it, or Eve showing up at Helene’s house to cook her dinner only to get pushed into reading to her daughter. Both are very strong scenes with amazing performances, but they don’t have the gravity that the other scenes have.
I think it’s partially because they’ve given us new supporting cast members in each of these storylines. We’re not invested in Villanelle’s new crowd like we were Konstantin. We’re not used to seeing Carolyn without Kenny or someone else in her life.
Yes, we have seen characters that have come up over the course of the series, but they haven’t been around for more than a few moments and it’s not helping the show maintain the witty dialogue we have come to expect from a few interactions with Carolyn. The seasons should be rested on Villanelle and Eve’s interactions but instead seems intent on keeping them as far away as possible.

Fortunately, it seems that this structure is slowly falling to pieces, and rightfully so. The redemption arc angle doesn’t feel like the right fit for Villanelle. Although she seems to want redemption and to be good, there’s a revenge motive to be told her and her skills are needed.
While it may be insightful to see how Villanelle’s mind works during her vision, it’s also disheartening to see her fail at something like this. Eve clearly wanted redemption, but I feel like the mode of her redemption has to come another way.
And that way should be in helping Eve not be a helpless assassin.

Despite only seeing Eve on the path of vengeance for a couple of episodes, we can already tell that she needs a major assist. Hiding a tracker in a tampon with an applicator is amateur hour compared for Villanelle’s style, and they could temper each other out in a really useful way.
If the series starts to move Villanelle and Eve together then the final season should start to pick up. Especially if it starts tying in the characters we haven’t seen yet and begins to give us actual answers regarding who The Twelve are.
