Dynasty Review: A Little Fun Wouldn’t Hurt (Season 5 Episode 5)
Liam re-thinks his stance on the idea of babies on Dynasty Season 5 Episode 5, “A Little Fun Wouldn’t Hurt.” Meanwhile, Sam gets some unsettling news in his adventure for fun.
The longest-running issue in Fallon and Liam’s marriage has been their inability to see eye-to-eye on the prospects of children. It’s a dream that Fallon has had since she was a child, and no matter how hard she may try to push it away, it’ll always be a dream of hers.
Dynasty excels when it does what it does best; taking the time to focus on Fallon and Liam’s relationship. Throughout the series, the two have been through immeasurable ups and downs, resulting in an almost unbreakable bond. However, the straw that might break the camel’s back is babies.
Liam has vehemently opposed children from the start of their relationship and sticks true to his word anytime it’s brought up. However, after taking some time to think about it on his own, he seems to have overcome his fear.

If the past has any indication, this is a clear set-up for potential issues down the line. We can only hope that Liam’s decision is genuine and will not falter down the road.
While it’s easy to run with Liam’s newfound love for the idea, I can’t help but be hesitant about the situation. That’s not to say that Fallon and Liam wouldn’t have beautiful children because they would.
And thanks to their pursuit for a free moment alone to make said baby, the Carrington Compound is introduced in detail.
Introducing the Carrington Compound is a vital moment in the episode’s plot and showcases the beginning of Fallon and Liam’s new chapter. The compound is the perfect place to raise their children and allows Fallon to keep the Carrington legacy close.

In the compound is a vast amount of rich Carrington history, allowing Fallon to feel closer to home and stay at ease. When her children are old enough, it’ll provide a rich lesson in family history.
Where the series takes an unfortunate turn is its storyline directions for Sam, Dominique, and Jeff.
Dominique has had her goals set on mending the relationship between her and Jeff for quite some time. Now that she’s achieved that goal, it seems she’s hell-bent on ruining it with her attitude towards him.
Initiating a beef between Dominique and Jeff after spending a large portion of time getting their relationship on a suitable base feels messy and lazy. While the issues between the two are cleared up towards the end of the episode, the question remains why it is introduced at all.
Instead of attempting to backtrack the progress they’ve made, it’d be ten times more entertaining to see them start their own takeover. In fact, Jeff mentions the beginning of a new chapter for Dominque’s online presence, which is bound to bring them closer. All that needs to be added to the equation for perfection is Monica.
It’s time the Colby’s make their mark as a family and solidify themselves as the ones to beat.

As for Sam, where do I begin? When I begged the gods for an exciting storyline for Sam this season, his flirting with his father was not what I had in mind.
Sam begins the episode focusing on himself and having fun rather than being serious all the time. And while it may be cringy to watch, it’s not wild or uncommon for Sam to run straight towards the flashy lifestyle for fun. He’s young, a millionaire, and has the face for internet fame.
Season one Sam would be thriving in the influencer world with the money and connections he currently has, but he’s grown. It doesn’t hit him until he’s blown off a handsome man’s date proposal and is directed on his kiss posture for Instagram just how mature he’s become. Those days of searching for internet fame and validation from strangers online are over.
Unfortunately, some things are too good to be true. In a moment that I’m sure the writers were anxiously awaiting, a curveball is thrown and lands smack-dab in the audiences’ face. The golden candidate that seems to share so much chemistry with Sam – Daniel – is his father.
It’s a jarring revelation that certainly blindsides Sam and viewers as well.

There are constant twists and turns, resulting in hilarious quips from Liam, Fallon, and Winston, but there’s also significant storyline progression for Fallon and Liam. It also provides one of the season’s funniest moments, and undoubtedly top three of the series, with Fallon and Winston’s fight.
Over the course of four seasons, Fallon has inserted herself into a myriad of fights, but never one quite this comical. If there wasn’t bad blood between Winston and Fallon before, there certainly is now.
If Winston is to stay on as the primary caretaker to the property, there are for sure wild times ahead.
Other Thoughts:
- Fake Cristal’s newfound obsession with trying to make a move on Adam is unsettling. While my disdain for his character has had no change, I hope he figures out the truth soon. In fact, I think he may already know of the impostor’s presence. I believe the blood test proves she’s not Cristal, but Adam is waiting to corner her when she’s alone.
- The lack of Amanda is a real bummer.
- I enjoy that Fallon sticks to her character traits even in moments of utter joy or passion. She and Liam’s alone time at the compound is supposed to be used to make their baby. But, that doesn’t stop Fallon from resorting to her snooping ways and finding ways to insert herself into business that isn’t initially hers.
- Winston’s little comments about Liam had me dying of laughter. I can only imagine what hilarity will ensue if he stays on with them after they move in.
