Suspicion Review: Strangers (Season 1 Episode 3)
On Suspicion Season 1 Episode 3, “Strangers,” we learn that Natalie isn’t as innocent as she claimed, which is not all that shocking.
Of course, it’s not a big reveal that she’s involved in the kidnapping — that would be moving things along much too quickly — but her embezzling crime does explain her connection to Sean. It’s one mystery at least partially solved.
Suspicion really needed this twist because, for one, it shows that the police were right on some level to bring her in.
Since we didn’t see Scott and Vanessa working through the case prior to bringing the three suspects in, it’s hard to weigh in and decide if they are wrong about their suspicions or not. Maybe this means we should be looking more closely at Aadesh and Tara and scrutinizing their behavior a bit more.

The Natalie twist also helps keep this episode engaging.
Watching Aadesh, Tara, and Natalie’s lives fracture after being arrested isn’t all that entertaining by itself because it was bound to happen. You can’t be implicated in a kidnapping and think that it won’t affect your daily lives at all.’
Natalie and Monique’s storylines really help drive up the tension and keep you on the edge of your seat, especially when Monique goes to meet Sean. Aadesh and Tara’s storylines are the weaker ones of the episode.
That’s where all the momentum is, so every time we have to check back in on Aadesh and Tara, things slow back down, and we wish we were back with Natalie and/or Monique.

Now we have a new question: Does this mean Natalie isn’t involved in the kidnapping?
It seems too early in the series to completely rule her out. But, the discovery of this new suspect might mean that Natalie is off the playing board as far as potential kidnappers go. One suspect is ruled out, and a brand new suspect is discovered.
This keeps the number of suspects the same and doesn’t overwhelm us by continuing to add people to the mix. However, hopefully, it doesn’t mean that the series will keep uncovering new potential suspects and potentially dismissing Tara and Adeesh.
We’ve spent so much time on Natalie, Tara, and Aadesh, and it’ll be frustrating and a waste of our time if the series moves on from them. Our time should be worth something, and so maybe if one of them is innocent, then the other should be guilty.

On “Strangers,” the investigation is once again more of an afterthought.
It’s not what Suspicion is wanting to primarily focus on, so we’re dropped into scenes with Scott and Vanessa and have to quickly catch up. Sometimes it is fine, but other times there’s mild confusion and you just have to roll with it.
It’s not a huge issue, but being able to follow along with them more easily would make the viewing experience better.
Plus, Vanessa and Scott are entertaining! They have such an unusual dynamic considering they don’t work for the same agencies, and they each have their own agenda and guidelines from their bosses.

Spending more time with them on “Strangers” is fantastic, especially considering the fact that their work and relationship is more thrilling than Tara and Adeesh’s lives falling apart.
I want to see more of how Scott and Vanessa’s relationship progresses (or doesn’t). I’m invested in them and curious as to how they’ll work together to solve this case.
Stray Thoughts
- Uma Thurman starts to be more involved in the episodes, right? She is too big a star to barely be in this.
- I thought the ransom video would have been more of a focus.
- Natalie’s relationship may be over after all of this. She should’ve let Joe be her lawyer and not kicked him out.
