Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Course Correction
Things get dicey at Prater’s retreat on Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 7, “Course Correction.” It was only a matter of time before Dexter had a sit down with Prater one-on-one, and this seems to be the moment.
That said, I’m still not convinced there’s not something more sinister about Leon Prater looming just under the surface. He just seems to know so much about each person he invites to his gatherings.
And considering how hush hush they are, you’d think he’d do his homework to be sure the correct person shows up with the correct information. Fingerprints can be fudged, as Dexter proved with that first meeting.
Dexter’s Losing Focus

That said, I am also really concerned about how casually cavalier Dexter is about killing someone at the retreat. He’s always been very diligent and controlled with how he kills.
It’s almost as if the stress of Prater, playing a role as Red, and making the mistake with Gareth has made him desperate for cleanup. After all, he had to know revealing he killed the other Gemini twin in broad daylight within feet of the rest of the gang is extremely reckless.
I can’t decide yet if it’s meant to be this way, to show that Dexter thinks he’s in control but he’s really not, or if the writers missed the mark on this one. Either way, I wasn’t as impressed with this particular kill as I have been in the past.

My concern earlier in the season of there being a pitfall of having too much going on is starting to come back. Only in a different font. Now, my concern is that Dexter has too many stressors which isn’t going to translate well.
By the end of the episode he still has Prater’s strange obsession with him looming over his shoulders, he’s still got to worry about being found out as an imposter, and now he knows that Batista is still hot on his trail.
Dexter’s always had a slightly awkward, yet charming, persona but during Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 7, “Course Correction,” it feels a bit manic. Like I said, maybe that is the writer’s intention for these final few episodes.
Batista’s Got an Axe to Grind

Batista has always been a fan-favorite character, but my goodness the man just doesn’t give up. He’s determined to capture Dexter and prove he’s the Bay Harbor Butcher once and for all.
Luckily for us Dexter doesn’t really leave any evidence in his wake and this cat and mouse adds to the drama. Despite how frustrating it is to have Batista always butting his nose in, you have to give the man credit for persistence.
Not only that, he deserves his flowers for pursuing the Bay Harbor Butcher case despite having no evidence to back up his claims that it wasn’t Doakes. All in all, this makes things more fun and does a great job of bringing in the nostalgia factor fans love.
Batista leaving his AirPods in Dexter’s car might be genius for other folks, but he’s forgetting that Dexter always finds a way around things.
Besides, now that Lowell, Mia, Red, and the Gemini Killers are taken care of, I don’t foresee Dexter murdering anyone anytime soon. Sure, Ponytail Al is still on the board, but now that Dexter has fingered Gareth as the killer he can’t get rid of the only remaining club member.
Harrison Wants to Be a Cop

I will agree with Elsa that hospitality is definitely not the road Harrison should be pursuing. However, I don’t know if criminal justice is either considering he’s still a major suspect in the Ryan Foster case.
This shift, on Dexter: Resurrection, toward showing just how much Harrison and Dexter are the same and different seems to be setting the show up to focus more on Harrison as we go forward. It’s a great way to pass the torch that still allows Dexter to be around and doing the thing we love most.
The jump scare of Detective Claudette being the guest lecturer at Harrison’s college tour is fun as well. And having Dexter show up, albeit a bit late, for Harrison in such a normal, dad way is great to see.

We love Dexter the serial killer serial killer, but we love Dexter the dad even more and getting to see him evolve in that role with Harrison is just as exciting as his kills. After all, years ago he thought the Trinity Killer was right when he told him he couldn’t have both, but his current trajectory is telling him otherwise.
Not only that, Dexter getting to one up Detective Claudette is fun, especially for Harrison. If you watch his face as Dexter tells her the blood spatter is all wrong for a crowbar is priceless.
It’s those little moments that give us joy amongst the ever growing anxiety surrounding Dexter and Harrison’s shared secrets.
Stray Thoughts
- At first I found Al’s childlike wonder about the world fun, now that I’ve seen him use it to kill I’m over it. But, Eric Stonestreet continues to kill it.
- Charley definitely doesn’t believe Dexter, but she can’t exactly speak out with Prater there. I smell a confrontation between her and Dexter coming soon.
- Since Prater has the weapon the New York Ripper used that means he knows him…I have a theory on that, but I’m not ready to share just yet.
