Big Sky Review: Little Boxes (Season 2 Episode 7)
The little boxes referred to in the title have some rather gruesome content inside on Big Sky Season 2 Episode 7, “Little Boxes.”
The many threads of Big Sky‘s narrative begin to spin into an entertaining web of intrigue. So many plots connect or overlap, and it’s always enjoyable when it happens.
It’s that small town life, eh? Everyone knows each other one way or another or they are soon to be linked together somehow.

The best example of that on this episode is when Tonya (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) runs into both Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) and Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) but at different times and places.
I like this ambitious, go-getter side of Tonya, and Ren (Janina Gavankar) does, too. Donno (Ryan O’Nan) seems like he’ll come around soon.
The real estate opportunity she brings to Ren connects them to Cassie and the property her father wants to buy. I thought it was random when he first showed her the ranch on Season 2 Episode 6, “Heart-shaped Charm.”
I’m very interested to see how this plays out.

But Ren is quite busy at the moment. Jenny is questioning her and her brother has arrived in town. It looks as though they have a less than loving sibling relationship. Please just let the woman lay out in the sun with a cocktail and listen to Alanis Morissette.
It is an unexpected use of her iconic song, “Ironic;” a moment so understated in its brilliance.
Another great soundtrack choice relates to the episode title as well. Ronald (Brian Geraghty) finally makes his escape with the help of Scarlet (Anja Savcic), girlfriend and psychotic soulmate.
“Little Boxes” by Malvina Reynolds, also known as the Weeds theme song, plays innocently as the sinister villain heads off into to town.

On the Season 1 finale, “Love is a Strange and Dangerous Thing,” a similar technique was employed successfully with Johnny Mathis’ “Chances Are.” It plays good against evil in a visceral way, and the effect is horror-film chilling.
The content of those “boxes” brings in more of the horror element. Smiley’s severed hand is in one. Another is a form of torture for T-Lock.
But, man, is it satisfying to see him get his.
The “What’s in the box?” Seven moment is so well done—a beautiful homage really. Jenny’s teary eyes strike again!

And I have to say Season 2 has been lacking in the gore. I welcome it back.
