Welcome to a new week and another round of What to Watch on TV for the week of August 1st! We’ll be sharing our picks for what to watch this week, from marathons to big guest spots, and significant episodes of TV to look forward to while stuck inside.
This week’s picks include Val’s streaming debut, Vivo is ready to make a splash, and more.

Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union – Tuesday, August 3
Get a look at the upbringing and organizing origins of the man that became the first Black President of the United States in a new multi-part series that reveals his struggles with racial identity, movement towards progress, and everything in between. Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union premieres Tuesday, August 3 at 9/8c on HBO.

Cooking with Paris – Wednesday, August 4

Paris Hilton is returning to the small screen with an admittedly unexpected series, a cooking show where she spends time in the kitchen with a few celebrities cooking and baking some new recipes. Cooking with Paris drops Wednesday, August 4 on Netflix.
Series Description: With the help of her celebrity friends, TV personality Paris Hilton navigates new ingredients, new recipes and exotic kitchen appliances, going from the grocery store to the finished table spread.
Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami – Wednesday, August 4

Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami is a docuseries following the story of a pair of men, Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta. They are two of the biggest drug dealers in Miami. This six-part series chronicles their roots, their rise, and their fall when they were taken down by law enforcement. Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami debuts Wednesday, August 4 on Netflix.
Series Description: Fifteen years after the release of his original cult classic film comes director Billy Corben’s Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami – a six-part saga on the South Florida traffickers indicted in one of the largest drug cases in U.S. history. Alleged to be the chief U.S. distributors for two of Colombia’s biggest cartels, Cuban exiles Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta were accused of smuggling over 75 tons of cocaine into the U.S. in the 1980s. The high school friends built a reputed $2 billion empire that made Willy and Sal, aka “Los Muchachos,” two of Miami’s biggest celebrities. While law enforcement plotted their takedown, the world champion powerboat racers managed to skillfully outrun and outmaneuver prosecution for decades before the chase finally came to an end. Featuring colorful interviews with those closest to them, their defense team, and the Feds tasked with taking them down, the series paints a vivid portrait of the last of Miami’s “Cocaine Cowboys”.
Departure – Thursday, August 5

The Peacock original series is back with a new devastating case for Kendra to solve — the derailment of a high-speed train in Michigan. But as she gets further into the case, the number of suspects rises. Will Kendra and the team be able to find the person responsible? Departure Season 2 returns Thursday, August 5 on Peacock.
Season Description: A new season of Departure follows Kendra Malley (Emmy® Award winner Archie Panjabi) as she’s recruited to investigate the derailment of an experimental high-speed train in rural Michigan. Val – Friday, August 6

Val Kilmer gets stunningly candid with his latest documentary as he curates and provides insight into his life growing up, his passion for film — both in front of the camera and behind it — while also reflecting on all of his time in Hollywood. The actor’s reflections seemingly precipitated as a result of a devastating diagnosis and the road to recovery. Val debuts Friday, August 6 on Prime Video.

Vivo – Friday, August 6

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s latest project has him cast a musically-inclined kinkajou that befriends a musician. In the face of a tragedy, he must find a way to get an important message to Andres’ oldest friend. With an amazingly stacked cast, Vivo premieres Friday, August 6 on Netflix.
Movie Description: Vivo follows a one-of-kind kinkajou (aka a rainforest “honey bear,” voiced by Miranda), who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lively square with his beloved owner Andrés (Buena Vista Social Club’s Juan de Marcos). Though they may not speak the same language, Vivo and Andrés are the perfect duo through their common love of music. But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval (three-time Grammy-winning Latin pop legend Gloria Estefan), inviting her old partner to her farewell concert with the hope of reconnecting, it’s up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could: A love letter to Marta, written long ago, in the form of a song. Yet in order to get to Marta, who lives a world apart, Vivo will need the help of Gabi (newcomer Ynairaly Simo) – an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum to fulfill his owner’s wishes.
Burden of Truth – Friday, August 6

Joanna’s on the search for Helen’s long-lost daughter while she and Billy continue to investigate the site of Helen’s accident. Burden of Truth airs Friday, August 6 at 8/7c on The CW.
Episode Description: Joanna (Kristin Kreuk) searches for her client’s long-lost daughter to protect her client’s legal interests and keep the case alive. Billy Crawford (Peter Mooney) calls on an unexpected expert to help him examine the accident scene. Police Chief Owen Beckbie (Meegwun Fairbrother) follows up on the shocking arrests while Luna Spence (Star Slade) tries to make a decision about her future.
