Dynasty Review: The British Are Coming (Season 4 Episode 16)

Dynasty, Reviews

Liam is up for a Paysinger award, but Fallon focuses her attention elsewhere on Dynasty Season 4 Episode 16, “The British Are Coming.”

After the long-awaited tease of Alexis’ daughter making an appearance, she’s arrived! The fantastic Eliza Bennett makes her official debut as Amanda on “The British Are Coming” and showcases the potential drama to come from her arrival.

The excitement that I have with Amanda’s arrival is purely out of love and respect for Eliza Bennett. Frankly, bringing in another Carrington child is not preferable because the show already has issues dealing with the children’s dynamics.

Amanda is nowhere near the Carrington level of drama, at least not from the first glance. But, it’s sure to come with her introduction to the family.

Amanda’s whole world is upside down with the passing of who she thought was her mother, only to find out her “cousin” is her mother instead. She is looking for answers from Alexis because she’s been lied to her whole life, and there doesn’t seem to be anything more to it.

Alexis is quick to move on and shower whoever will receprocate her love with treasures. She isn’t thinking about how Amanda is feeling, so her sad attempt at giving Amanda the family ring is ingenuine.

However, Alexis outing herself as a liar at the press event is the most Alexis thing she could possibly do and it’s hysterical.

Fallon is downright nasty on “The British Are Coming,” and at some point, an attitude change needs to come for her.

Fallon can be kind, caring, and a loving person when she wants to be. The problem with Fallon is she can never take two steps back from any situation to look at it more clearly or take advice from anyone she doesn’t deem worthy. The consistent “poor me” attitude that she exudes has been old, and if she doesn’t take time to change her actions, Liam might end up distancing himself.

Liam is up for his first award as an investigative journalist and continues to talk highly about the occasion, but Fallon skips the engagement for her own petty needs. Fallon Shopping Network is currently number two, but her need to be the winner all the time overpowers her ability to think critically.

Liam is always supportive of Fallon and her endeavors, so it stings a bit for her to basically tell him to his face there isn’t much of a chance of him winning. Even if it was known that Liam would be booed out of the event and humiliated, she should still be taking the time to attend with him.

It’s nice that Fallon can be the bigger person at the end and apologize for missing Liam’s awards, but she better be careful. There is clearly some foreshadowing between Liam and Eva, and if Fallon isn’t cautious, she could be fighting for her marriage sooner rather than later.

Love triangles are never a fun thing to endure or watch, so fingers crossed that Liam and Fallon can work through their troubles before Eva jumps in the mix.

I love Fallon as a character, but she’s her own best enemy. Her constant need to be on go twenty four seven is making her put other areas of her life on standby. She has grown as a character exponentially since Season 1, but those tendencies are still there.

Anders’ presence on “The British Are Coming” is such a touching detail added in and genuinely brings warmth to a cold heart. Anders will live on with the Carrington family forever.

Neither Sam nor Culhane have taken the time after Anders death to mourn properly, and Leo’s passing is just another reminder. Culhane does exceedingly well at keeping his poker face up because he is the definition of calm afterward. But, he’s still fighting his inner demons and we need to see that happen for him to grow.

Sam, on the other hand, can’t hide his feelings about the situation as easily. It’s fitting that he’s torn up about the whole situation, however, in the end it’s sweet that all he needs is Culhane.

The teaming up of Culhane and Sam has been one of my favorite moves of the season, but they have not been adequately utilized or given entertaining storylines. If the duo is kept up, I hope for more in Season 5.

Other Thoughts:

  • Crystal is a great campaign manager because she’s not afraid of getting dirty and breaking the rules.
  • Adam cutting Alexis off for being a liar is the definition of hypocrisy. When will he be cut off?
  • I will riot if Steven is not mentioned at least once during Amanda’s introduction to her siblings in the next few episodes. SOMEBODY better mention him.

Favorite Quotes:

  • “Blake running for senate is a big swing, even for him. Although, he is a rich white male, so I guess craving power is in his blue blood.” – Fallon.
  • “I find it hysterical he thinks he can win. He has more skeletons in his closet than a Halloween outlet store.” – Alexis.
