Wellington Paranormal Review: She-Wolf (Season 1 Episode 4)
Wellington Paranormal Season 1 Episode 4, “She-Wolf,” gives our hapless heroes a new creature to contend with — the werewolf.
This show has maintained consistency on all fronts, but especially where its clever jokes and running gags are concerned. “She-Wolf” is no exception.
The performances are top-notch all around, with the spotlight honing in on Officer Minogue and Officer O’Leary’s partnership. This is the first episode wherein it feels like it’s an even playing field for both leads, whereas the past three installments mostly gave Minogue a chance to shine.

Karen O’Leary and Mike Minogue are the beating heart of Wellington Paranormal, and their “Odd Couple” dynamics are so fun to watch. The “who gets to drive” and “who gets to hold the taser” running bits in this episode are hysterical.
Another delightful joke involves Sergeant Maaka as well when all three core characters are shouting “What?” at each other over their walkie-talkies.
It shouldn’t be funny, but Wellington Paranormal manages to elevate tired and potentially overused comedy bits with its signature dry humor.
The cinematography in “She-Wolf” is reminiscent of the 1990s “shaky cam” style prevalent in horror films of that time, such as The Blair Witch Project. It serves this series well, especially since it’s not a serious show by any stretch.
Additionally, Minogue and O’Leary’s disbelief regarding the existence of the paranormal never gets old. Even after being inundated with demons, malevolent spirits, and vampires, they always default to the “reasonable” explanation for something.
Oh, there’s a werewolf on the loose? Obviously, it’s merely a pug wearing jeans that’s terrorizing the townsfolk!

Nowadays, it’s difficult to find love for the police, notably after what happened to George Floyd. While Wellington Paranormal takes place outside of the US, the show still addresses the precarious and convoluted relationship between law enforcement and civilians, which is also a universal issue.
Of course, “She-Wolf” does this with style and humor.
Minogue, O’Leary, and Maaka are quite endearing despite their foibles. They’re not your stereotypical “brutish” cops, and they genuinely want to do right by those they protect. The good intentions are there, but their ineptitude is where the comedy lies.
The werewolves copulating in the background while Minogue and O’Leary attempt to deliver their usual “serve and protect” spiel at the end is delightful.
Overall, “She-Wolf” is another hilarious Wellington Paranormal episode that ticks off all the supernatural and comedy boxes while seamlessly blending the two genres with its unique brand of storytelling.
