Big Brother Season 23 Week 2 Recap: The Frenchie Show Comes to an End

Big Brother, Recaps

Big Brother never disappoints. And this week is no different.

Big Brother Season 23 has one main star currently and that is Frenchie. It is not uncommon for a few of the houseguests to get most of the screen time early on in the season, but this is over the top.

Frenchie claims to be a super-fan of the series but is doing everything a player should not do in the very beginning. His first mistake was making an alliance with almost every houseguest and then having to nominate two of them for eviction.

Every superfan knows you feel out the house first before aligning with others.

His second mistake comes this week when he assumes he is being nominated.

It is true several houseguests mention him as a possible nominee, but as soon as he loses his HOH safety he loses it. He even turns against his biggest alliance, which still has his back, part of the reason he gets nominated and evicted.

Another mishap on Frenchie’s part is being so indecisive. He says one thing and then completely changes his mind five minutes later. This type of behavior never works in the house and clearly, it is the same in Big Brother Season 23, because thankfully Frenchie is gone from the game for good.

Now let’s talk about Kyland’s reign as Head of Household. The best decision he makes is listening to Tiffany, who is clearly the brains of the house. Her efforts to get Frenchie on the block are successful, much to the delight of us fans.

Kyland also picks up on Britini’s solidarity to her Joker teammates. Kyland knows she might use the Veto on Frenchie if she plays, so he ensures that if she wins she will use the Veto on herself and Frenchie will go home. This is smart gameplay and shows that Kyland is forward-thinking, which is a great attribute when playing Big Brother.

However, Kyland does not get everything right this week. He refuses to answer any questions the houseguests pose to him by responding he has all the power and does not need to respond to any inquiries.

But what about next week, Kyland? Asking for safety from the Aces and the Kings with nothing to promise back is not the best way to go about advancing his game. This tactic could prove to be a disaster now that Kings teammate Xavier wins Head of Household.

It is exciting to finally see other houseguests getting some screen time. With 15 people still in the Big Brother house, we do not get to see everyone’s personality right away.

Sarah Beth is someone finally getting her due. She proves her worth by winning the Wildcard competition. The icing on the cake is that Frenchie did not win to secure his safety. Sarah is someone to keep your eye on this season as she will certainly survive several more weeks.

At first, Sarah Beth comes off as annoying. Maybe it is her cartoonish voice that makes us feel this way. But with each episode, she becomes more of someone we can cheer on in the Big Brother game.

Derek X. continues to show his athleticism in competitions by winning the Power of Veto again. However, he still lacks screen time. If he did not play in the competition this week, he would not appear at all.

Hopefully, he gets his time to shine soon. Unlike Hannah or Whitney, Derek X. actually has a personality and is capable of having interesting gameplay discussions. Derek X has yet to indicate his true alliances at this point, so it will be great to see where his solidarity lies.

Another Big Brother houseguest with more screen time this week is Britini. She is the houseguest that needs to be evicted next week. CBS appreciates over-the-top personalities, but Britini is too much to handle.

Always being loud and upbeat is nice to have in a house cut off from society, but we viewers do not need to see this on our televisions. Her rap on eviction night is clever, but not enough to keep us interested in wanting to root for her to win the game.

If Britini wants to stay in the house, she needs to build alliances outside of Derek F and Azah. However, since there are so many alliances already in place, Britini might be starting her gameplay a little too late.

Britni getting evicted next week could mean that the rest of The Jokers follow soon after. As likeable Derek F and Azah are, their early Big Brother departures will not be too upsetting. Again, this comes down to lack of screen time and not their personality.

The Houseguests participate in the brand new Sunday competition called Wild Card Competition, where each team sends one person to play. Safety is always up for grabs but there is always a risk/reward element. Then, the Head of Household nominates two fellow Houseguests for possible eviction on BIG BROTHER Sunday, July 18 (8:00 Ð 9:00 PM ET/PT on the CBS Television Network and live streaming on P+. Britini is the most annoying person in the house. That is until Tom Green enters (albeit virtually) to host the Head of Household competition. CBS could not find any other past celebrity houseguest to host this game? Luckily, he only appears for about five minutes, which is the longest amount of time most people can tolerate Tom Green.

And congratulations to Xavier for his Head of Household win. If he is smart, he will target the Aces as they are the only other team that still has four members.
