‘Lovecraft Country,’ ‘Pose’ Among 73rd Primetime Emmy Nominations
Last calls are the theme of this year’s Emmy® Award nominations, as canceled shows lead the way.
HBO’s Lovecraft Country, which the network recently announced wouldn’t return for Season 2, received 18 nominations including, drama series, Jurnee Smollett for lead actress, Jonathan Majors for lead actor, Aunjanue Ellis for supporting actress, Michael K. Williams for supporting actor, and Courtney B. Vance for guest actor.

In the outstanding drama series category, Lovecraft Country goes up against, The Boys, Bridgerton, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Mandalorian, This is Us, and the final season of Pose.
Mj Rodriguez makes history as the first transgender woman nominated in a lead acting category for her role as Blanca on Pose. Among the drama’s nine nominations are Billy Porter for lead actor in a drama series.
On the comedy side, Allison Janney receives one last nod for Mom, and The Kominsky Method is recognized for outstanding drama, lead actor for Michael Douglas, supporting actor for Paul Reiser, and guest actor for Morgan Freeman.

This year’s most competitive category, outstanding limited or anthology series, features fan favorites WandaVision, Mare of Easttown, The Underground Railroad, I May Destroy You, and The Queen’s Gambit.
The nominations were announced by This is Us‘ Ron Cephas Jones and Hamilton’s Jasmine Cephas Jones, who became the first father/daughter duo to win Emmys in the same year in 2020.
The Neighborhood star Cedric the Entertainer will host the show, which will once again broadcast from the Microsoft Theatre at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. There will be “a limited audience of nominees and their guests.”
73rd Primetime Emmy® Awards airs Sunday, Sept. 19 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on CBS and Paramount+.
