Superstore Review: Deep Cleaning (Season 6 Episode 11)
The best episodes of Superstore are the ones that combine something truly silly and weird with simple stories about the characters and their growth as humans. A close second is when they tell hilarious stories from a uniquely retail perspective.
Superstore Season 6 Episode 11, “Deep Cleaning,” is exactly as the former describes: both truly silly and character focused. It’s sprinkled with seeds of growth for many characters (including a new relationship for Jonah?!) and it rallies around the premise of an “all-iday” party, which is a party that celebrates all of the holidays missed due to the pandemic.
“Deep Cleaning” represents growth for several characters, but one of the ones that sticks out is Garrett. Even though his comment about missing the Christmas party turned him into co-organizer of the “all-iday” party, the growth he continues to display warms the heart. He sees how important the party is to Glenn and his other co-workers and fully commits to making it happen, even if in a very Garrett way.

Garrett: You guys are going to enjoy this weird-ass little party, ’cause that’s what Glenn wants!
The further things go on, the more the show illustrates that Garrett cares about his co-workers.
Then there’s Mateo. Mateo’s never been into commitment, but the miscommunication between he, Jonah (oof) and Amy and Eric’s parents results in a major mix-up about Eric and Mateo’s plans. But it gets Mateo thinking about his future and marriage after all, showing how far he’s come (and how cool Eric is)!
Finally, there’s Jonah.

Fans are made painfully aware in Season 6 that Jonah has struggled in love, and Amy’s parents’ arrival at Cloud 9 only amplifies that feeling. So in spite of his propensity for making every situation as awkward as possible, Jonah retains (pun intended) the interest of Carol’s attorney, Hannah.
The use of Amy’s parents is a two-fold catalyst for growth for Jonah and Mateo, whom the show has followed since they started at Cloud 9 Ozark Highlands on the same day. Their presence is a catalyst for growth for both, even though it’s done in different ways. It’s a pretty brilliant double guest spot, really.
Do we think that Hannah is just a diversion from Amy coming back to get him in the finale? Or is this a let Jonah finally be happy situation? I could see how Ron and Connie might casually mention Jonah to Amy at some point and get her to come back in some way. They didn’t see Hannah for no reason.

A few stray thoughts:
- One of the best plot points that didn’t make it into the bulk of the review – Dina gets high on fumes and it is hilarious!
- Garrett-Dina endgame is totally happening. I’m calling it now. They’re in love.
- Favorite throwaway line – Marcus casually mentioning he dressed up in full Shrek costume to sit at home alone on Halloween.
- Finding “POG” magazine from the nineties in the deep clean is also a highlight.
