Preview — The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: Marvel’s Most Reluctant Co-Workers Are Teaming Up

If WandaVision taught us anything, it’s that we’re not ready for what The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is about to unleash on the world.

It feels like just yesterday Bucky, brainwashed by Hydra, was ripping the steering-wheel out of Sam’s hands on that crowded freeway. Now, thirteen Marvel films later, we’re preparing to see Bucky and Sam team-up for their own Disney+ mini-series.

We may never be completely prepared for the chaos magic that is Bucky and Sam’s complicated relationship — but we are excited!

Who wouldn’t be excited to see two of Marvel’s most reluctant co-workers set loose on the world unsupervised? Their inability to turn down a staring contest and their refusal to agree on anything, including what qualifies a person to be a wizard, is sure to make for a messy team-up.

The first season is comprised of six episodes and will follow Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) as they attempt to move on as a team in Captain America’s absence.

Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) will return as a potential ally for Team Cap as they set their sights on Flag-Smasher and Zemo (Daniel Brühl), the latest villains to challenge the super-hero hierarchy.

When Captain America: The Winter Soldier premiered in 2014, it quickly established itself as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s greatest accomplishments with its politically charged premise and beautifully choreographed fight scenes. The film’s characters were awarded a depth Marvel is finally ready to explore in a broader-television format.

Political themes will once again be a major influence as the government ignores Steve’s chosen successor in favor of naming their own replacement, John Walker (Wyatt Russell). Meanwhile, Sam will battle his own apprehensions to accept Cap’s shield and the mantle that comes with it.

The show’s many trailers promise us plenty of high-scale action and choreographed fight sequences. Hand-to-hand combat is Team Cap’s specialty and the show will be looking to capitalize on that any way they can — including the return of skilled kick-boxing mercenary, Batroc.

An episodic format will also give Sam and Bucky time to process the loss of their friend, Steve Rogers. Bucky has experienced as much trauma as Wanda on his journey from soldier to assassin to ally, and Falcon and The Winter Soldier understand he’s in desperate need of therapy. The show will finally allow him the time to process what the films could not.

But the mini-series won’t overlook the couple’s therapy these two co-workers are in desperate need of either.

So get the squad ready because Falcon and The Winter Soldier is just days away from taking over our lives with its witty banter, heart-pounding action, and dysfunctional super-hero dynamic.
