Single Parents Review: Look, This is Obviously a Sexy Situation / A Night of Delicate Frenching (Season 2 Episodes 20 and 21)

Reviews, Single Parents

Single Parents Season 2 Episode 20, “Look This is Obviously a Sexy Situation,” is fantastic, giving us some great emotional moments. Meanwhile, Single Parents Season 2 Episode 21, “A Night of Delicate Frenching,” is an example of more of the mediocre episodes of the season. There’s nothing significantly wrong with it, but it could be a lot better.

Single Parents really shines when it isn’t afraid to get emotional and examine the bonds between our favorite characters. It’s why out of the two episodes tonight, “Look, This is Obviously a Sexy Situation” is the one that stands out the most, and it’ll most likely be the focus of this review.

It gives us heartwrenching moments between Poppy and Douglas in addition to some wonderful friendship moments between Poppy and Angie (and Derek). “Look, This is Obviously a Sexy Situation” manages to make us laugh while tugging on our heartstrings. All in all, it is a pretty near perfect episode.

We haven’t really seen how Emma, Amy, and Rory have been affected by their parents dating, and so it is nice that it is a big focus of these two episodes. I don’t believe they ever knew that Poppy and Douglas were about to move in together, but we are still able to see that they had become used to the fact that Poppy and Douglas were dating.

It would have been even better if we could’ve heard more from Emma and Amy, especially on their relationship with Poppy, but I guess I’ll settle for the great Rory and Douglas content.

I don’t know what’s better, Rory’s comments on murdering Douglas, their sincere conversation in the presidential library, or the fact that Rory comments on how he has grown close to Douglas over the past year. They are all wonderful moments and honestly are my favorite part of both episodes.

Rory: It’s true, guys. I really do know Douglas. I really got to know him this past year. We’ve become very close, which is why it is a shame he’s broken my mom’s heart, and now I must murder him!

Part of the reason why their scenes are so great is that Single Parents hasn’t really explored their relationship. It’s assumed that they have one, but it isn’t shown. So to hear both of them talk about how close they’ve become and be vulnerable with one another is beautiful.

Hopefully, we will continue to see more of Rory and Douglas’ relationship, even though Poppy and Douglas are sadly settled on being friends. It would be a great way to continue to weave their lives together and perhaps get them back together — please?

Speaking of the heartbreak that is Poppy and Douglas, their chat at the school is painfully beautiful. As much as I want them back together, Single Parents has made a very compelling case for the fact that it’s just not meant to be between the two of them.

Rory: Hello, Douglas.

Douglas: Rory, what are you doing here?

Rory: I’ve come to murder you.

Douglas: And that would go down how?

Rory: I mean I figured I could find something to throw at you, maybe a sword. I feel like a lot of museums have swords.

If it is to work out, then, unfortunately, I think it has to be done slowly.

Your stance on more kids doesn’t change overnight. I can see something happening in the twins or Rory’s life that maybe makes Douglas realize the joy of raising a child and wanting to do it all over again.

Single Parents really outdid themselves with Poppy and Douglas. It is not the ship we were expecting, but it’s safe to say that we fell hard for them. Do you think they’ll get back together?

We need to talk about Miggy and how amazing it is to see him get to be a capable and intelligent human being.

It’s hard being the only guy not in a will they or won’t they situation, and it definitely comes across like Single Parents doesn’t know what to do with him. So, he’s been relegated to comic relief, oftentimes coming across like an idiot, and while he does it well, there’s so much more potential there, as these two episodes prove.

Miggy gets to be wise and really be there for Will. They are an underappreciated friend pairing, and it’s great that it’s highlighted more. On top of all of that, it seems like Miggy is the only one who has picked up on the sparks and hidden feelings between Will and Angie.

Poppy: V-I-B-E you can’t even lie to me. You vibing! What? What? You vibing!

The lesson of this story is that Miggy needs to be allowed to have storylines that involve him being something other than a joke. He can be more than the guy searching for dinosaurs in a presidential library. Do you agree?

There’s one moment on “A Night of Delicate Frenching” that is particularly annoying — Angie telling Will that he’s her only meaningful connection. Hello? Poppy, the godmother of your child doesn’t count?!

I can sort of understand her writing off Miggy and Douglas as not super meaningful, but it is still a low blow to say that none of your friends matter that much to you. That one line really diminishes all of Angie’s other relationships. Miggy and Douglas have been there for her, for Graham. How are they not meaningful?

This line is meant to show that Angie really values Will as a friend and perhaps something more, but it should have been left out or re-written somehow. Angie calling Will confusing, personally, is a much stronger line because it hints that she has feelings for him that she doesn’t know how to process.

Stray Thoughts

  • Derek could stick around for a bit if only to be introduced to everyone else. It needs to happen.
  • Tony seeking justice for Steve Irwin is yet another reason why I love him.
  • The Parent Trap is a GIFT, and it should be treated as such.
  • Please have Lance Bass appear every season.
  • I’d be happier with the Will and Angie ending if they were naked. Falling asleep fully clothed doesn’t mean that much, guys.
  • Rory has a talent for crafting dramatic stories. He should write Gavel Town fanfiction!
