Miracle Workers: Dark Ages Review: Moving Out: Part 2 (Season 2 Episode 10)
Lower Murkford has seen better days, but at least there’s still a few left to stand their ground on Miracle Workers: Dark Ages Season 2 Episode 10, “Moving Out: Part 2.”
The episode feels a little standard for what’s likely the last of this time period if the show continues on, even its ending feeling like a tease of more to come. But it does provide some more time with these weird characters, and so that’s always welcome.

There’s something charming and silly to faking an illness to clear the enemy out of town. It’s the kind of idea only the peasants of Lower Murkford could pull off with some believability. The rock sprouts are a clever callback to Ed’s strange enjoyment of them and their side effects, and a rather clean solution to the chaos.
One part that feels a bit strange is that the other townspeople, once caged, all turn their attention to Al being the lone survivor to live another day. Everything up to that point has been about selfishness and putting themselves above all else, and so it feels like a fake-out when they all choose Al to leave rather than making cases for themselves.
But at least we get more of these absolutely insane characters, like the oracle and the strange pervert character, that are just so out there. More of them would be nice, in terms of them acting weirder, but at least we know the oracle is learning to play the harp.
It’s a happy ending for the most part, with Al and Chauncley riding off into the sunset (well, the dark forest), Vexler as the new king, and some of the town able to carry on.

But the worry of Al leaving is only an episode ago, along with Al choosing to stay and help the others because it’s her town. There’s a small disconnect to realizing that Lower Murkford’s their home and worth staying for, to then leave at the end of the season. It’s a fitting end for both Al and Chauncley to strike out and find their new lives, but feels a little off when the point of the episode is to embrace their home.
Their stories in Lower Murkford have reached an end point, though, so it makes sense for them to leave. Their time in death and destruction is the right kind of moment for Al and Chauncley to realize how they feel about each other, and while it’s mostly delegated to the one kiss, it’s a satisfying way to conclude that arc.
Vexler choosing to return and help is a nice surprise, as he’s been shown to shift his loyalty depending on what kind of standing it allows him. Riding off with Cragmoor with a chest of gold sounds nice and all, but it’s not the same as standing up for the place he has ascended in. It leaves him even better off, really, as the new king.
His reign will be much more successful, as he’s even humble about how far people should bow for him. The show could have used more Karan Soni and Lord Vexler, as he’s always a wonderful addition when he’s on.

Miracle Workers: Dark Ages Season 2 Episode 10, “Moving Out: Part 2,” may be a little too simple of an end for the season, but there’s plenty to enjoy with its characters and its dedication to the bit of the town crier giving out information in the worst possible conditions. The constantly raining arrows and treating it as a storm is an amazing joke as well, and it’s things like that that leave a great impression for the show.
Its success is found in Simon Rich and company’s writing and the performers, especially Geraldine Viswanathan, Daniel Radcliffe, and Karan Soni, as they deliver on their characters and their quirks in relatable, hilarious, and satisfying ways.
The show, and this season, is about fun in the end, and that’s the most important thing. Miracle Workers wants to be ridiculous, and it more than hits that mark with cleverness to boot. The show hits on something special, this dark look at peasant life in the middle ages as they suffer day to day. To turn that into an offbeat comedy is a fun place to play in, and the show uses the setting to great effect.
There’s certainly more to do in this setting, especially if the show follows Al and Chauncley on their way to Paris. But if this is where the Dark Ages end, it’s as good a spot as any.
