Modern Family Review: Snapped (Season 11 Episode 2)
Modern Family Season 11 Episode 2, “Snapped,” gives us much more hope for the rest of the show’s final season than the Season 11 premiere.
It’s everything we love about Modern Family—dad jokes, inoffensive scheming, the Dunphy siblings working together, and a few laugh-out-loud quips (like Luke’s “she’s not Lily” comment to Phil about everybody having a breaking point. She does seem the most likely to be able to pull off a crime and successfully cover it up).
Speaking of covering things up—this episode almost makes you forget about the nonsense we went through with Cam and Mitch in the premiere. In contrast, they’re the stars of Episode 2—well, the supporting players, in truth.
Bridget—the smart fridge who is skilled at grocery shopping, petty gossip, cooking advice, and karaoke—steals the show. She’s like the “feed me and tell me I’m pretty” meme personified—objectified?

Instead of actually showing us Pepper and Ronaldo introducing a woman into their relationship, we get a less literal interpretation of this juicy gossip. And it’s done so well. Apples, martinis, and Lady Gaga. Yes, yes, and yes.
Personally, I’m still not on board with voice commands (I compulsively have to tell Siri “thank you” for setting the occasional reminder for me), but this episode almost convinces me I need an AI fridge to plan my weekly meals and entertain me until my roommate gets home.

Other than Bridget + Mitch (and Bridget + Cam and Bridget + Jay), the best pairing in this episode is the unexpected power duo of Phil and Gloria. The combo of Gloria’s different cultural background paired with Phil’s je ne sais quoi (optimism? naiveté? loose grip on reality? aloofness?) just works perfectly.
First—Phil’s paranoia from watching too many episodes of Snapped? Been there. Wondering who in your life might reach their breaking point and commit a heinous crime? Been there.
It’s endearing to see Gloria in the role of a student, and we’re glad to see her pursuing something she’s interested in. Will her fieriness serve her well or hinder her in the real estate world? She probably just needs someone a little softer for balance.

Given how well she and Phil contrast and complement each other, they might be the next dream team. My bets are on Gloria scoring that coveted “unpaid, uncredited” opportunity with Phil in Episode 3.
A few final thoughts on the episode:
- Maybe I’m projecting a bit of my own middle child syndrome onto the screen, but can we please do better by Alex next week? I just want to wrap her in a weighted blanket and tell her everything’s gonna be okay.
- Where was Lily while her dads were hanging out with Bridget? I would have loved to see her serve some teenage sass back to the fridge.
- Someone get Dylan some aloe and teach him the importance of SPF!
What did you think of this episode of Modern Family? Would you jump on the smart fridge train? Have you gotten sucked into a Snapped marathon?
