The Bachelorette Recap: You Don’t Own My Body (Season 15 Episode 7 )

Recaps, The Bachelorette

On The Bachelorette Season 15 Episode 7, Hannah seizes the moment while on a date with Garrett. Things steam up between Hannah and Peter. Luke is once again at the center of a controversy.

Lots to cover, including more Luke drama, so let’s get to it. There’s the revelation that Jed had a girlfriend up until the moment he handed over his phone to producers. Yikes.

They agreed his coming on the show was too good of an opportunity to pass up as far as exposure for his music career. Double yikes.

They planned to reunite after Jed returned home. Triple yikes. Jed ghosted the girl, and she’s spilling her guts to anyone who will listen.

This doesn’t compare to the racist and sexist social media activities of Season 14’s winner, Garrett Yrigoyen, but it’s scandalous nonetheless.

This is kind of old news, but I didn’t get the 411 until after last week’s recap. But since we don’t know the final outcome (okay, I have it on pretty good authority the identity of the last man standing), this drama is going to be a big deal either during “The Men Tell All” and/or on “After the Final Rose.”

Don’t worry, no spoilers from me on Hannah B.’s current supposed relationship status.

So, enough of all that. It’s time to unpack all the baggage Hannah and her men bring to Riga, Latvia. Once again, Hannah is coming off of a hard week, and she’s waiting to be swept off her feet. There are nine guys left which feels like a lot.

Hannah’s first one-on-one date is with Garrett. The two go naked bungee jumping. Apparently, this is a tradition in Latvia, and when in Rome …

I can’t imagine the appeal of this since nobody is so tone things aren’t going to jiggle with all those ups and downs. It also happens to be freezing which isn’t good news for Garrett (shrinkage).

But this odd excursion brings the twosome closer. How could is possibly not? Unlike Garrett’s wiener during the bungee jump, Hannah feels their relationship is growing.

Daytime is for fun stuff, but nighttime isn’t for ding-dong talk. It’s for conversations that dig but not too deep. Garrett’s conversation with Hannah feels like a job interview when he asks her what hurdles she’s overcome to mold her into the person she is now.

Hannah talks about her struggle to not let others control her which is on ongoing theme with her. She doesn’t offer specifics which is why not only do the guys really know nothing about her but neither do we.

Garrett’s big secret is he grew up in a football family, played football, and actually hated it. This is really a no-win situation. Not everybody has had it tough or wants to share their history on national television.

The fact that nobody is allowed to talk about anything that isn’t pre-screened and encouraged by producers makes these transactions ring false.

Garrett’s falling in love with Hannah, and she’s willing to take a leap of faith with him (cheesy metaphor), so she gives him a rose.

Prior to the group date, Garrett reveals to the other guys that he went naked bungee jumping with their girlfriend. Luke P. doesn’t believe Hannah would ever do such a thing. It’s hard to tell if he’s more upset at the prospect that Hannah took her clothes off, or that she took them off with Garrett.

For the group date, Hannah and seven of her suitors explore Riga. They drink, dance, and arm wrestle. Hannah shoves a huge pickle in her mouth which is just too overtly phallic too ignore.

It’s a drama-free group date, and everyone is doing their best to stay in their respective lanes. But all good things must come to an end, and it’s usually because of Luke P. Hannah regales the men with tales about her adventure with Garrett, and Luke P. learns the girl of his dreams did let it all hang out.

He thinks of Hannah’s body like a temple, and it’s disrespectful to show it to anyone who isn’t her husband. Now Luke P. is free to feel however he wants to about this whole thing. But if he’s looking for a modest, twentysomething virgin to be his bride, he’s most definitely not in the right place.

Luke confronts Hannah, equating her actions with cheating on him. Luke’s mad, and his little pea-sized mind is blown. Things get way worse. Hannah defends her actions, explaining the experience wasn’t a sexual one, but Luke feels it’s a slap in the face when he’s considering introducing Hannah to his family.

But, this is where he really screws the pooch, he can overlook her “boneheaded” mistakes. He’s ready to stick it out no matter what. Funny, he had zero issues with stripping down during a cocktail party.

I keep waiting for Hannah to freak out on him, but she appears to be stunned speechless. Luke P. is so proud of himself for being real just like Hannah asked him to.

Tyler C. gets the rose.

Hannah’s second one-on-one is with Peter. The two enjoy a Latvian-style spa day. Safe to say this isn’t your run-of- the-mill manis and pedis.

The highlight of their date is some very heavy petting in a sauna … and a hot tub. Hannah acknowledges her chemistry with Peter is undeniable, but she does question if there’s more to their connection.

Over dinner, Peter wants to know where Hannah’s strength and confidence comes from. It’s almost as if someone told these guys they better have a good question on deck for their big dates.

Hannah’s so eager to portray herself as this “spitfire personality” she perpetuates some negative gender stereotypes. Hannah says “the perfect woman” is often considered to be quiet. Hannah, when it comes to comments like that, you might want to stay in your lane.

As a woman with a platform, she should be embracing all women. She shouldn’t be buying into the idea of a “perfect woman” or putting it out there as something other women should aspire to.

Peter’s big moment is admitting he had a bad breakup and hasn’t been able to fall in love since. BFD. He gets a rose.

Jed makes a power move. He takes his guitar (and his cheating heart) to Hannah’s hotel to serenade her. They kiss, he says he’s falling for her, etc.

The remaining forty minutes of the show revolve around Luke. How much more space can I dedicate to a “douche-canoe” who is not going to make it to the end? He’s not even provocative enough to make me look up from my computer when he speaks.

The morning of the rose ceremony, Hannah pulls Luke P. aside to address the things he said to her during the group date. While she appreciates him coming to her with his concerns, she thinks what he had to say really sucked. Another feminist fail from Hannah is when she says Luke P. isn’t her husband, so he doesn’t own her or her body.

I don’t know how things work in Hannah’s world, but not even husbands own their wives. Would a husband be down with his wife getting naked with another dude? No. But that’s out of mutual respect.

Luke does his go-to move of seriously backpedaling and revising history. He didn’t say that. He didn’t mean it that way.

He’s so misunderstood. He’ll be better. My frustration is no longer directed towards Luke P., it’s Hannah’s insistence on keeping him around that’s rubbing EVERYONE the wrong way.

Hannah decides to forego the cocktail party, and all of the men blame this on Luke P. He gets another chance because Hannah does see the goodness in him. I guess the same can’t be said of Dustin and Dylan who she sends home.

Next up, more Luke P. drama.
