Preview — Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3
On Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3, it’s a battle between life and death as the Night King and his army descend upon Winterfell.
HBO isn’t releasing the episode 3 title prior to airing. Even with this potential spoiler eradicated, we know the Night King arrives at Winterfell, bringing a ton of undead with him. The episode run time is one hour and 22 minutes, and the carnage promises to be epic.
Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1, “Winterfell,” and Season 8 Episode 2, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” gather together most of the principal players, excluding Cersei who’s riding out this storm safely in King’s Landing. If the battle to come is the climax, then episodes 1 and 2 are emotional fluffers; foreplay to make the inevitable body count to follow much more heart-wrenching.
Woefully outnumbered, the plan is to use Bran to lure the Night King out into the open. Dany and Jon swoop in (presumably on Drogon and Rhaegal) to kill the leader of the army of the dead. This explains why they’re watching Winterfell from a distance, protecting and saving their best weapons until the right moment.
Ridding the world of the Night King leads to the demise of every White Walker and wight as well. Of course, the best-laid plans always go awry, especially when Theon Greyjoy is involved.
Those on the frontlines aren’t the only ones at risk. The crypts running under the seat of the North — the final resting place of generations of Starks — isn’t as safe as promised.
Fans know there are a network of tunnels under Winterfell that were built to provide a way out should the need arise. This also means they provide a way in, and since the Night King and Bran share some kind of psychic link, the Night King could have access to this information.
