A Million Little Things Review: The Rosary (Season 1 Episode 16)

A Million Little Things, Reviews

A Million Little Things Season 1 Episode 16, “The Rosary,” addresses many of the same themes the show has been exploring, proving that it’s the perfect time to air the penultimate episode of the season.

The gang welcomes Maggie’s mom Patricia to the mix as they wait to learn the outcome of Maggie’s surgery. She’s played by the delightful Melora Hardin, but I’m glad she’s not in Boston to stay. Hardin’s home is on The Bold Type, as the supportive but challenging editor of Scarlet Magazine, Jacqueline Carlyle.

The story of how Patricia and Gary meet is bland, though well acted by both Hardin and James Roday.

Something about this whole episode just isn’t desperate enough. To be fair, perhaps I feel this way because it’s clear from the promo photos for the season finale that Maggie is very much alive. It’s not a smart move on the network’s part to release pictures of her if we’re supposed to be worried.

All throughout the scenes where Patricia and Gary are worried about Maggie needing blood, I am calm. During the scene where Gary and Patricia are bonding over the rosary and I’m supposed to feel worried Patricia might lose another child, I am unaffected. It really downgrades the quality of the episode.

Theo’s “lesson” in remorse is so much wasted air time. He’s always been a little bit annoying, to say the least. There’s only about half a second between the moment he realizes he’s acting like a brat and has ruined his mom’s day and him apologizing with tears. It just doesn’t make any sense at all.

His parents are not a hundred percent sure they want a divorce. There is nothing wrong with that uncertainty, even though cheating is involved. I understand that a closure kiss or closure sex is natural in some cases but Eddie and Katherine’s “almost” kiss would not have been that.

Katherine says she wants to explain Hunter and the two plates to Eddie. Both parties are at fault in the divorce, but it’s a pretty well-accepted fact that Katherine doesn’t owe that kind of explanation to Eddie.

Eddie’s unborn child makes the situation so complicated. He would have to tell her about it before anything could work. I’ve said 10,000 times I don’t think Katherine and Eddie are great for each other. But they’ve had too many “almost” kisses lately to sign those papers. Plus, they really need to get rid of that table if they’re always going to remember the sex.

We need to move on to Regina because — poor Regina! I gave Delilah the benefit of the doubt before most fans did because cheating situations are complicated. My feelings about Jon are neutral.

Regina needs to pay back her uncle, that’s why Andrew is involved. But Delilah is missing the point of Someday in the first place.

It’s officially maddening that Delilah brought Andrew on board and is just letting him take over everything. She should instantly know something is wrong when Someday’s review is mostly about Andrew.

Hopefully, the finale will circle back to what makes the show great. A close group of friends relying on each other to get through their friend’s suicide and help each other thrive again. Everyone is so separate on this episode. It’s decent but boring.

Pending a really huge bombshell, I still don’t care who Barbara Morgan is. A press of the reset button couldn’t come soon enough.

A Million Little Thoughts

  • I’m glad Maggie’s alive, I think she’s my favorite.
  • It’s awesome Rome is going to volunteer for the suicide hotline, but that whole plot with him and the kid who reads his script feels so…scripted. (I’m not sure if that pun is intended or not!)
