Siren Review: Primal Instincts (Season 2 Episode 5)
Ryn grows even closer to Ben and Maddie, Katrina escapes from Xander, and Maddie ends up in a sticky situation because of her mother on Siren Season 2 Episode 5, “Primal Instincts.”
I know that this is only another side of Ryn learning more about being a human, but I don’t like that Ben and Maddie are getting real close to having a threesome with Ryn.
Both Ben and Maddie have heard Ryn’s siren song, and I don’t think they’re factoring that in. Yeah, it feels nice and feels like the right thing to do for all of them, but that’s because the song is programmed inside two brains and one is a mermaid who has fallen in love with the people who taught her how to be a human. It’s not fate, and I feel like they’re becoming a little distracted on figuring the siren song out.

Cami wants revenge for her mother’s death, which is understandable, but I didn’t think she’d betray Ryn and join ranks with Katrina again to do so. Katrina is a firestorm that burns everything in her path, which is why Ryn needs to kill her because if she doesn’t, she’ll only continue to cause problems.
All Cami knows of humans, besides Helen, Ben, and Maddie, is their love for destruction and death. She doesn’t know that one does not define them all because she hasn’t had the same experiences. I hope that Ryn can convince her that she’s making the wrong choice before things get too intense between the groups.
Xander really has lost his mind thinking that Katrina would stay and help him when they got back to land. She’s a mermaid who doesn’t take orders from men, and he has no way to keep her on board by force. He should’ve stayed out at sea so Katrina couldn’t escape because now she’s going to end up getting Cami, Levi, and Eliza killed.

Ben has seen what’s stopping the mermaids from entering the water firsthand, even got blasted himself, so he knows that there’s no way they can safely go back in. Katrina, on the other hand, has no idea what she’s up against.
Instead of trying to think smart Katrina only wants to do what will return her home the fastest. In turn, they could all be severely injured if they get too close to the thing emitting the waves and would have nothing to do besides swim back to shore quickly.
Maddie’s mother royally screwed the pooch, but at least she’s owning up to her mistakes and not running away this time. Susan knows that she messed up and she doesn’t want to do that to Maddie, so she swears never to do it again, but her leaving her ring in the motel room is a critical mistake.

Of course, Maddie isn’t going to let her mother with bruises on her face return back to the room of her abusive supplier alone, but she shouldn’t have gone inside the room alone and put herself in that situation. If Ryn hadn’t been outside and heard Maddie’s yells, there’s no telling what could’ve happened.
Ryn and Maddie are both in hot water now because Glenn’s death isn’t something they’re going to be able to hide very well with Susan knowing about it. I also feel like it’s going to make her look at Ryn even closer now.
I am not shocked in the least bit to learn that Ben’s father is somehow related to the drilling and ocean mapping. He’s never shown interest in anything having to do with the wildlife in the ocean, so he doesn’t care what he’s hurting as long as there’s more money to be made.
It’s nice that Rick has Helen to come to because his real sister abandoned him and treats him as if he’s already dead. He never had much of a family because of the genes he has, and it’s sad, but at least now he has Helen as his family.
