The 24th Annual Critics Choice Awards: ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ and ‘The Americans’ Take Top Honors

Critics Choice Awards, News

Hot on the heels of the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards, TV’s biggest stars gathered together for the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

The Critics’ Choice Awards’ nominees in the television categories were arguably more inclusive than the Emmys or the Golden Globes, but it was a parade of familiar faces who made the trek to the podium.

Alex Borstein won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as foul-mouthed manager Susie Myerson on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The Amazon original about a Jewish housewife turned comedienne also earned Emmy and Golden Globe winner Rachel Brosnahan Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also won Best Comedy Series.

Bill Hader and Henry Winkler won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for their roles on HBO’s Barry.

Critics have long been lauding The Americans as a TV triumph, though it was largely left out of the running in awards consideration for much of its six-season run. But the show and its stars have been scooping up awards left and right following the series’ final season. Matthew Rhys won Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Soviet spy and suburban dad, Philip Jennings.

Rhys wasn’t the only cast member to receive an award. Noah Emmerich won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

The Americans also won Best Drama Series.

Sandra Oh, who received an Emmy nod and won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Eve Polastri on Killing Eve, won Best Actress in a Drama Series. Oh edged out some serious competitors, including Elizabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Keri Russell (The Americans), and Julia Roberts (Homecoming).

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series went to Thandie Newton for her work on Westworld

One of the night’s few surprises was a tie between Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) and Patricia Arquette (Escape at Dannemora) for Best Actress in a Made for TV Movie or Limited Series. The women took to the stage at the same time to give their speeches.

Awards juggernaut The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story continued its winning streak, adding yet another award for Best Limited Series to its collection (the brainchild of Ryan Murphy also took top honors at the Emmys and Golden Globes).
