Gotham Review: Trespassers (Season 5 Episode 2)
As Gotham starts to wind things down for good, their final season story is just starting to heat up.
On Gotham Season 5 Episode 2, “Trespassers,” Gordon tries to rescue some children from a bad situation, but finds the price on his head to be a major obstacle.
Gotham has always thrived on chaos, and adapting the “No Man’s Land” story may be the most chaotic the show has ever been. Other than the characters looking clean-shaven and showered, the land is desolate and the people desperate, which means it’s no surprise that things get more violent than normal.

What works the best about “Trespassers” is that Gordon stays true to his character. A small child needs his help and Gordon puts his own (and Harvey’s) life in danger to save these children.
That said, what really sets the story apart from others on the show is how downright terrifying it is. Gordon and Bullock encountered some of the freakiest situations I’ve seen on this show on “Trespassers,” and it’s a blast to watch.
“Trespassers” (or at least Gordon and Bullock’s main story) has a real horror movie feel to it. I’m man enough to admit that I jumped more than once.

Harvey Bullock: Check out the basement in a creepy hotel all by myself? What could go wrong, right?
Especially that freaky lady and her “son” in the hotel. Yeesh.
Elsewhere in the episode, the regular players are still true to character, but maybe aren’t wrapped up in such freaky situations.
Ed and the Riddler, for instance, are still doing their little dance. It remains an interesting C-plot, though, as additional details come to light about what Ed is doing out at night and why.

But since he wants to start a war, I’m really looking forward to the outcome. More exciting chaos awaits!
More interesting still is the journey of Bruce to find “the witch” who turns out to be none other than Ivy Pepper! Ivy is as cunning as ever, but at least she helps Bruce heal Selina and absolve some of that debilitating guilt.
This another situation in which the city is in sheer chaos, but Bruce Wayne stays extremely true to character. Even at extreme detriment to his own safety, Bruce saves Selina.

A few stray thoughts:
- I’ve never been a fan of the way they kept changing Ivy, but I’m a HUGE fan of Peyton List, so it’s exciting to see her again.
- Since Jim and Lee Thompkins met (and Barbara went crazy), I’ve been firmly in their camp. But for the first time in five seasons, I reconsidered after Barbara helped Jim out of a jam. Isn’t life wild?
- Speaking of Lee, where the heck is she?!
- I was infuriated when the people outside of Gotham City try to tell Gordon to stand down. For real? You guys can’t even send in supplies but want to tell everyone else what to do?
