The Good Place Review: The Book of Dougs (Season 3 Episode 10)

Reviews, The Good Place

The Good Place returns for its last few episodes of the season with Season 3 Episode 10, “The Book of Dougs,” where Michael tries his best to figure out how to fix the point system.

The Good Place continues to shine and prove why it’s one of the best shows on television right now as Eleanor and the group are mere feet away from Heaven, but can’t get in.

Although I wish there was more, Nicole Byer’s appearance of Gwendolyn is spectacular. Byer is the epitome of comedy and I hope that this isn’t the last time we’ve seen her character on the show.

Eleanor’s emotional rollercoaster in “The Book of Dougs” is sweet because Chidi makes her the happiest that she’s ever been and she’s not used to having those feelings. But, it’s also sad because now that Eleanor is dead her life is turning around and she’s found the man of her dreams with one door standing between their happy ever after. The stress is too much for her.

I know I mention it in almost every review, but Chidi and Eleanor’s relationship is one of my favorites because of the natural growth that has happened between the two.

Chidi may have gotten a little push towards Eleanor when he was told about their relationship in an alternate timeline, but all it did was make him realize what’s been there the whole time. You don’t build the type of love like theirs overnight, and Chidi wearing a mailman suit to please Eleanor is so romantic.

I fear that the finale is going to end up tearing them apart again, making them reconnect and rekindle their feelings in Season 4. I hope that’s not the case, but I have a gut feeling that something is going to happen between them.

Michael may have found a reason as to why the point system isn’t working anymore, but I still think that there could be something wrong inside the good place and not the bad place. I think there’s a possibility that the good place could be messing with the points system simply because they don’t want anyone else to be admitted.

I think that it’s sweet and shows some real growth for Jason that he can’t stop thinking about how he knows that Janet loves him, but she doesn’t know he knows. He knows it was wrong to snoop and figure out Janet’s secret, so he’s making an effort to fix it.

As for Janet, I think it’s fun to see her becoming more human and dealing with more emotions because part of it is like a child experiencing everything for the first time.

D’Arcy Carden could have a TV show where all she does is sit and stare at a camera while eating and I’d still watch because she’d make it gold.

I have a bad feeling about Michael working with the judge again because there’s no telling what could go wrong. One misstep and it’s over for everybody.

With only two episodes left in the season, there’s no telling what could happen to our favorite interdimensional law breaking crew.

Favorite Quotes:

  • “Pop that bench.” – Chidi
  • “What’s up fart faces, Chidi and I just had sex in a closet.” – Eleanor
  • “All of these new emotions that I’m feeling are about to burst out of me, which might be super embarrassing. What if they come out my butt?” – Janet
  • “All that stands between us and the actual good place is one door. What is that two inches thick? That’s like four Oreos. We’re four oreos from heaven!” – Eleanor
  • “You still wanna go out with me after I just showed you my anxiety sweats? Man, you must really be into me.” – Eleanor
