24 Most Hilarious TV Characters of 2018
24 Most Hilarious TV Characters of 2018 (continued):
9. Murphy Brown — Murphy Brown

Murphy Brown is back on the air and back on our television screens! The witty news maven is as brilliant as ever. She is taking on the political issues of the time and her BS detector is as spry and accurate as it was when she was in her twenties.
The divisive and often infuriating political climate of the United States in 2018 is getting the Murphy Brown treatment, and it feels so good to laugh while facing that very tough stuff in the news. Murphy Brown never gets too dark, she is on a sitcom after all. For example, her #TimesUp moment is powerful and is based on a sexual assault that is not as extreme as a rape.
Murphy has the passion and conviction to match the most intense of issues, but her character doesn’t have to go through the hottest fire. That works for the show and the character. She allows us to tip-toe into the most dramatic and difficult topics and still leaves us laughing and ready for sound sleep by the end of the episode.
10. Ruby Martinez — On My Block

Puberty is painful and painfully funny. Ruby Martinez’s earnest and romantic personality has us clutching our stomach’s as we recognize the hilarious woes of adolescence.
Ruby is a unique character on this list because he isn’t funny-funny. He is achingly sweet and wanting of a life that his neighborhood and physical stature don’t quite allow. He is optimistic, bossy, loyal and witty. But, he won’t accept status as a sidekick. He is a leading man and is so strong he will make that happen no matter what.
The tragedy of Ruby’s story doesn’t make it less funny. It just makes it bitter-sweet, of the bitterest and sweetest kind.
If you haven’t binged On My Block on Netflix yet, you are missing out on Ruby leading you on a journey of sorrow and joy.
11. Rosa Diaz — Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Rosa has blossomed as a friend and team member on Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5. The heart of her hilarity is indeed friendship. Whether she is making bunny fingers to distract Amy from the pain of resetting her leg, or donning a jersey accent to get intel to save Jake, Rosa will go to any lengths to support her 99-family.
The moment Rosa sees Gina Rodriguez’s character step out of the cab is an iconic snapshot of the painful joy of vibing with someone.
The expressiveness of Stephanie Beatriz’s face coupled with her monotone voice is a brand that works consistently. The development Rosa has received in 2018 has taken her consistently funny performance over the top to our list of best TV comedic characters of 2018.
12. David Rose — Schitt’s Creek

On Season 4 of Schitt’s Creek, we see David deal with the ups and downs of his first meaningful (and longest) relationship. It is both hilarious and heartwarming to watch.
David perfectly combines the unique comedy and heart with which the show is so wonderfully imbued. He provides laughs and feels, and it is truly a joy to go along this journey with him.
13. Valencia Perez — Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

V has been the voice of straight-up reason on Season 4 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She calls out Rebecca for her privilege and her poor decision-making. She also has a flair for the dramatic that catapults her honesty to new heights. The shoulder work on “No One Else is Singing My Song,” is a stand-up comedy bit in itself.
Her performances on all the songs are always so nuanced and fully invested, they shine. While the characters of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend all bring their quirks and musical theater chops to the small screen, Gabrielle Ruiz’s Valencia stands out because of her searing truth bombs, untempered by shame or passive aggressiveness.
She is refreshing, underrated, and a gem on our list gut-busting characters of 2018.
14. Kevin McClain — American Vandal

American Vandal is a pitch-perfect parody of modern true-crime documentaries. Kevin McClain goes beyond the true crime genre to parody a particular kind of nerdy high schooler at a privileged institution. Kevin McClain’s commitment to tea and other avantgarde preferences endear him to us as the viewers.
While the terd escapades are absurd and often gross, the show’s careful and thorough development of Kevin as a character adds a richness and depth of hilariousness to the show that no toilet humor could match. Our favorite fruit ninja cuts right into our list of top comedic characters of 2018.
15. Jeff, Mr. Pickles — Kidding

Jim Carrey is back on television and reunited with producer Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) for a role that’s both funny, endearing, and heartbreaking.
He plays Jeff, a.k.a. Mr. Pickles, a children’s television icon who struggles with an emotional crisis following a tragedy on Showtime’s Kidding. Jeff is immediately lovable, and Carrey’s portrayal of him as Mr. Pickles has been one of the most delightful things to watch on TV this year.
16. Susie Myerson — The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Susie and her plunger is the funniest thing on a show about people who are in the profession of funny. As her own storyline develops outside of her connection to Midge, Susie becomes an enduring bit on the time period comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and it strengthens the entire show.
Indeed, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is full of laughs, but the comedy happening behind the scenes from the stand-up star’s manager Susie is what really gets us. Her ruse as a plumber at the Dirty Dancing-esque summer retreat is absolutely delicious, right up to the final maraca shaking dance sequence.
Alex Borstein pulls out all the stops to make Susie a pitiful, hopeful, salty and sweet character you just know is gonna find a kernel of happiness. That’s the kind of sardonic optimism we needed to get through 2018.
