42 Best Moments from The 100 Season 5

Filming for The 100 Season 6 is well underway, but we’re still reeling from Season 5. Controversial as it may be, The 100 Season 5 is arguably the show’s best season yet.

This season focused heavily on relationships both new and old, how our heroes have been shaped by their experiences and breaking the cycle of violence that humanity finds itself repeating over and over. From emotional character-driven conversations to intense battle sequences, The 100 Season 5 is full of so many great moments we easily could have made this list twice as long.

Here are 42 of the best moments from The 100 Season 5.

42. Madi Beats Ethan in Novitiate Combat

Maybe it’s the music, maybe it’s the conflicting emotions, or maybe it’s the deliberate slow-motion, but something about this scene marks a clear turning point during this season.

The audience is perfectly torn between wanting to protect Madi as Clarke does and wanting Madi to be allowed to prove herself against the other novitiates and impress Octavia, the hero she’s admired for the past 6 years.

Clarke herself probably would’ve done the same thing in Madi’s shoes, act first–ask questions later seems to run in the Griffin family. It’s so satisfying to see Madi finally win and show off her skills, but that satisfaction is immediately undercut by the bone-chilling way that Octavia takes Madi under her wing in the very next breath.

Octavia practically dares Clarke to challenge her acquisition of her daughter, and well she gets what she asks for in the following episodes.

41. Bellamy Refuses to Leave Raven on the Eligius Mothership

Bellamy and Raven are one of the best duos on The 100; they understand each other, they make each other better leaders, and they have a very real friendship. Raven knows what it cost Bellamy to leave Clarke behind when they left for space, and she knows how much he cares for her in that same manner.

Bellamy both refuses to leave her behind and offers to stay in her place, looking for any solution that means she isn’t the one to stay behind. Raven gives him the solution he needs, essentially sacrificing herself to make sure that he can go home to see Octavia and the rest of their friends can get back to the ground.

I hope we see more of these two working together in Season 6!

40. Eat or Die

I’m hesitant to even put this scene on a list of “best moments” because it’s hands down one of the most difficult scenes to watch in the history of The 100.

But the acting here alone deserves high praise. From Avgeroplous’ heart-breaking and terrifying portrayal of Octavia’s descent into madness to Cusick’s devastating show of Kane’s compliance, and Turco’s perfect internalization of Abby’s guilt.

This scene is so hard to watch because it is expertly done in all its pure horror. Even the first man who refuses to eat brazenly leaning towards Octavia in one final challenge to the Red Queen sends chills through the audience.

39. Abby’s Sick Burn

Okay after the heaviness of the previous moment, let’s lighten this list up a bit, shall we? Season 5 saw Abby as one of the most changed characters through the time jump. But this brief moment of pure unrestrained sass is 100% the Abby Griffin we’ve always known.

McCreary has just revealed he’s the father of Diyoza’s baby while he holds Abby hostage. Rather than cowering in fear or buckling to his demands, Abby is brazen, mouthy, and determined to win in this battle of wills.

Though it’s painful to watch her struggle in perhaps the lowest point of her addiction throughout the rest of this episode, its heartening to see this little piece of her keep fighting.

38. Kane Tries Tequila

As Kane is led away from Abby they both believe the Eligius prisoners are taking him to harm him as a tactic to make her work harder. But Diyoza has finally seen the value of his intel on Octavia and the only real danger awaiting him here is a particularly strong shot of 100-year-old tequila.

We get to see the first real look at Diyoza’s backstory here and a glimpse of her humanity. And the fact that she assumes Abby and Kane are married isn’t lost on anyone. (Shh Kane, we all know you two have been married for the past 6 years.)

37. Raven Kisses Shaw

The dialogue in this scene might be the actual peak of cheesy apocalypse romance, but these two are literally made for each other. From the minute Shaw’s character was even announced, fans have been dying to see these two get together.

Raven: I’m not mad at you for saving my life, I’m mad at you for making me care about yours.

It’s so good to see Raven with someone who loves her the way she deserves to be loved and the fact that that person is immediate-fan favorite Shaw just makes it that much better. They’re both competent, passionate geniuses and they understand each other right from the start. More of these badasses in love in Season 6, please!

36. Gaia vs Indra vs Bellamy

The anticipation for this fight kept the audience on the edge of their seats for a solid week and 42 minutes, not wanting to lose any of these beloved characters on a show that is known to have a high death count every season. Each of these warriors has a different agenda as they enter the ring, strategies that make perfect sense for each character.

Bellamy doesn’t want to fight at all, much like Kane at the start of the season, Indra plans to take him out and ensure that her daughter is the last to survive, and Gaia attempts to assassinate the ruler she helped create.

The fact that all of these three survive the ring and Octavia’s wrath is a small miracle that I’m especially grateful for on a show like The 100.

35. Raven Doesn’t Run

Raven Reyes is a known boss and Shaw is constantly amazed by her (and so are we), so when Raven levels up yet again in both competence and fearlessness it’s no surprise that we’re all floored by her once again. When Murphy cracks the core of the sonic drill, Raven alone jumps into action amid the chaos and immediately deactivates it, saving them all in a split second.

Topping off her sheer talent with her delightful wit makes everyone fall that much more in love with Raven.

34. Abby Breaks the Cycle

After struggling with the disease of addiction for six years, Abby finally reaches a turning point where she’s able to hold onto the hope for a better future. Addiction isn’t something that is immediately over the moment a person is clean, but seeing Abby take definitive steps to prevent herself from relapsing is extremely important for this storyline.

Abby: First we survive, then we get our humanity back. You told me that, remember? A long time ago.

Abby’s survived her addiction, she survived detox and now she’s actively working on getting back to humanity and hope. I’d really love to see The 100 Season 6 continue to show Abby’s recovery and the work that goes into staying clean and taking back one’s life.

33. Madi Tells Octavia Everything to Save Clarke

The Griffin ladies are experts at making rash decisions to keep the people they love safe, and Madi takes right after Clarke and Abby before her. This family will do whatever it takes to protect each other no matter what, and I love seeing Madi make the same kind of off-the-wall moves that Clarke has made in previous seasons.

This moment also shows the eerie connection between Madi and Octavia. Their “girl-under-the-floor” similarities and Madi’s hero worship of Skairipa/Blodreina, make me hopeful that Madi will play a key role in Octavia figuring out how to be human again.

32. Raven and Murphy Find Out Clarke is Alive

Though it’s not a physical reunion, this is one of the softest moments of The 100 Season 5. From the way that Bellamy casually prefaces Clarke’s greeting as a surprise from another member of their family to the range of emotion on Raven’s face as she hears Clarke’s voice for the first time in 6 years everything about this scene is just sweet.

Murphy: Geeze and they call me the cockroach.

Maybe on The 100 Season 6, these guys can actually talk about everything like Clarke wanted.
