Young & Hungry Review: Young & Communication and Young & Handsy (Season 5B Episode 3 & 4)
Gabi finds new ways to sabotage her own relationship on Young & Hungry Season 5B Episode 3, “Young & Communication,” and Episode 4, “Young & Handsy.”
You would think that after every failed attempt at a relationship by now Gabi and Josh would have most of the kinks worked out, but that cloud of misery still follows them. Okay, maybe a cloud of misery is a little far, but some of this is old and tiring.
I’ll say it: Gabi is not a great girlfriend. The lengths she goes to make a small problem into a big situation is astounding. Instead of squashing her problems with Josh about wanting alone time, which she also enjoyed, she waxed his entire body and let him swim in shark-infested waters.

JONATHAN SADOWSKI
All of that drama and nonsense only for Josh to find out that Gabi knew the entire time as he swims back to the dock to safety. The difference between him keeping the secret and her keeping the secret is he doesn’t want to hurt her feelings. Gabi only wants to be right and not admit that it might be something she wants as well.
No matter what, Josh has balls of steel to go through all of that pain just to make sure Gabi’s feelings don’t get hurt.
Even after Josh has allowed Gabi to do everything so far, now that he’s settling down in the relationship there’s another problem; sex.

EMILY OSMENT, JONATHAN SADOWSKI
I feel like Gabi intentionally looks out for things to turn into situations. She ends up turning an ant hill into a molehill for absolutely no reason.
A healthy relationship doesn’t mean that you have to have sex every single day. Josh is a well-accomplished programmer, how exactly does she think he got there? It isn’t from sitting around and doing nothing.
Gabi asks the question: “who kisses someone on the forehead?” Girl, you’ve never been loved until now!! A kiss on the lips is always nice, but I think that a kiss on the forehead is more intimate because I feel like someone is kissing your whole body if that makes sense. It’s not just a physical attraction kiss, it’s more sensual and loving.

KYM WHITLEY, STEPHEN “TWITCH” BOSS, REX LEE
I would love to see a dynamic change in the relationship if I’m being honest. I know that that’s Gabi’s ‘charm’ and personality, but it gets old when it’s the same type of behavior over and over. The repetitiveness is tiring, which is why it would be nice to see Josh do a big freak out about the relationship, or just have Gabi act normal and dive into other character storylines.
Speaking of other characters, Yolanda never looks bad, but she kept pulling look after look these episodes. She looked amazing the whole time, even if she was doing horrible things like faking a disability.
Elliot and Yolanda together is a mixture of trouble and fun, which always gives that nice flash of humor to the show. I don’t know what the show would be like without them, I can’t even imagine it.

AIMEE CARRERO
I feel like Elliot and Yolanda getting individual little episode arcs is normal because of how they’re always in the mix being at Josh’s house. Sofia, on the other hand, doesn’t have that luxury which is why I wish we’d get something more mainstream for her.
I’m tired of just seeing Sofia chilling at home or doing some weird random job, I feel like that’s all there is and her character isn’t being used to its full potential.
This season is killing in the humor department, but I wish there were more followings of a storyline when it comes to everyone besides Josh and Gabi.
Other Thoughts:
- I realize that Gabi has done other more terrifying things, but smashing a laptop because you think I was masturbating is incredibly insane. That would be a deal breaker for me.
- Josh kicking Gabi out of his house so he can watch Game of Thrones in peace is the most relatable thing I’ve watched in a minute.
