Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 13 Review: A Big Birthday and Tequila Shots
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 13, “A Big Birthday and Tequila Shots,” is a rough night for Mandy.
On the previous episode of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Mandy lost her job after tripling down on her “controversial” statement and is now living with the aftermath of it.
After a few weeks of miserable unemployment and no calls back, Mandy is experiencing some depression.
This unfortunately happens to coincide with Georgie’s 21st birthday, something she is less than excited to celebrate.

A huge portion of this episode’s runtime is dedicated to Mandy’s flaws and addressing the age gap between her and her husband.
Here and in Young Sheldon, the age difference between them is, unfortunately, one of the more uncomfortable aspects of the series. But instead of focusing on that discomfort, the episode pulls attention to Mandy’s insecurity and jealousy of Georgie.
He just turned 21, and he’s already a competent business owner, husband, and parent. Meanwhile, it feels like she just blew up her last chance at her dream and is too old to start over.
32 is hardly old, but when comparing herself to someone much younger and seemingly more successful, it can be understandably difficult to remember that. Especially when that person is her husband.

That said, Mandy is an absolute mess this episode, leaving Georgie to be the mature one on his 21st birthday. It’s especially hard to watch when he’s been nothing but supportive to her.
Mandy wasted, blacks out, makes Georgie mad, and doesn’t remember how. Instead of going right to him to have an adult conversation about it, Mandy talks to everyone but him.
It’s not exactly a mature solution, but it is admittedly fun to watch.
We get to see the events of the night come together piece by piece, slowly forming the bigger picture of what happened.

But Mandy’s expert detective work still couldn’t get to the root of the problem. Georgie isn’t that mad at her for how she acted at the bar; he’s mad about what happened afterwards.
Georgie isn’t always the best partner, but in this episode, he’s really trying to be understanding of Mandy’s situation. But she tagged along to birthday plans she didn’t have to attend and made the whole night about herself.
It doesn’t help that she also threw up on him.
While she’s clearly in the wrong, Mandy’s breakdown is extremely believable. It’s easy to sympathize with how she feels, even if she’s not reacting in the best way.

It’s interesting that the main strain on their relationship seems to stem from their careers. It’s more than just a maturity gap; there’s also a perceived success gap.
It can be hard to watch someone much younger than you achieve so much more than you have. Even if that person is your husband.
This is a tough episode for the couple, but it does end with them talking things through a little further.
Georgie doesn’t seem to have completely forgiven her, but they are at least on decent terms. How long this will last is the real question.
