Mary Kills People Review: The Connection (Season 2 Episode 2)

Mary Kills People, Reviews

On Mary Kills People Season 2 Episode 2, “The Connection,” the high intensity drama from the premiere continues, and escalates with the return of a familiar face.

Mary’s death business is complicated already, and the writers keep throwing messy obstacles in her way. The result is another pressure-filled episode with a lot going on, but put together in a concise and entertaining way.

Love does not kill; it is life itself, and it shines with heavenly joys.”

This is how Mary sees herself in terms of assisted suicide. It’s all about helping people. Unfortunately, things keep making it difficult for her.

Especially when she is blackmailed into committing an actual murder. The situation becomes so dire. You can’t believe Mary will go through with it, but you also see no other way out.

Olivia is a cunning adversary and a great villain for this season. The scene between her and Mary is so captivating—I am hanging on every word.

Mary and Des part ways. The acrimony between them make their exchanges hard to watch because they are so great together when they get along. Des says it’s so Mary doesn’t have to answer to anyone, and he might be right.

Mary Kills People Season 2 Episode 4

That’s why the pickle she finds herself in with Olivia is even more dreadful. It creates a difficult dynamic for Mary, but it definitely ramps up the drama.

To further complicate things, Louise lets the flash drive fall into the wrong hands—her daughter’s, to be exact. This is a little seed that is planted for a future crisis, especially because Naomi is unable to tell Jess about it (and may withhold the information out of spite).

The most disastrous of obstacles comes in the form of undercover cop Ben. I was skeptical about his return, but his appearance in the final hair-raising scene of this episode really adds to the story.

As if Mary doesn’t have enough to deal with.

I am curious to how this will go. This is a real cliffhanger, and it’s just the second episode of the season.

Mary Kills People fits a lot into their episodes, but it is always done in service to the story. It keeps the characters and the viewers on their toes, and it is exciting to watch.

Stray Observations:

  • “What are fathers for?” “Nobody seems to know.”
  • “You guys are serious about this break-up?” Annie taking the words right out of my mouth.
  • The progression of the subplot between Mary and Nicole is fascinating. I am interested to see what comes of it.
  • The juxtaposition between Mary’s “job” and Des’ “job” is nice.
  • Grady was “all about that kyros, man,” and his sister is all about karma, apparently.
  • “I want you to be my gun, Mary.”
  • “We should have a play date sometime.” This is hilarious.
