22 Most Memorable Costumes From Timeless Season 1
Timeless returns soon, so now is the perfect time for a look at the show’s most memorable costumes throughout Timeless Season 1. Costumes are an essential element of any tv show or film, and it’s clear Timeless considers them an important part of their storytelling.
Not only do the characters often comment on their clothing, but the show also uses the wardrobe area as a backdrop for character interactions, and the costumes themselves are even occasionally included in the plot.
When shows explore historical time periods, costumes are necessary tools to help set the time and place for viewers. Timeless does an impressive job of being fairly accurate when featuring period clothing.
So, let’s jump in our own imaginary time machine and revisit some of the most memorable costumes from Timeless Season 1. Spoilers ahead!
1. Lucy’s (sort of) 1920s Ensemble

As Lucy points out on Timeless Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot,” her outfit is a bit of a haphazard combination of items from different decades.
Details such as period correct fabrics and underwear are often sacrificed in historical productions, and I love that Timeless turns this recurring issue with accuracy into a plot point in its very first episode.
Not only does it make sense that Mason Industries does not have perfectly accurate 1920s clothing available given Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus’ first outing on the Lifeboat is an emergency situation, but Lucy’s modern underwire bra ends up saving the day when Wyatt uses it to break the crew out of jail!
2. Wyatt’s 1920s Suit and Fedora

Look, I’m not made of stone here. A part of this list is just going to be me objectifying attractive dudes, you’ve been warned.
Wyatt looks super hot wearing this suit and hat on Timeless Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot.” His haircut is much too modern and probably makes him look a little odd to the those he interacts with in the past, but at least his stylish hat can hide it.
Fun fact: Did you know the fedora first appeared on the fashion scene in the 1880s as a women’s hat and became popular after actress Sandra Bernhardt wore it in a play?
3. Lucy’s 1865 Dress

There’s a decent effort for Lucy from the show’s costume staff on Timeless Season 1 Episode 2, “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln”.
Her bonnet and upswept hairstyle are nice touches, as both would be absolutely necessary to be appropriately dressed in 1865. Only one minor nitpick: the sleeves on Lucy’s dress are the wrong style for this time period.
A nice moment early in this episode is getting to see Lucy putting all of this on. Not only is the period underwear pretty spot-on, but seeing Lucy in all her different layers as her corset is tightened helps viewers get a sense of how different historical clothing is from the present day.
4. Rufus’ 1865 Union Army Uniform

As far as time travel shows go, one thing that helps set Timeless apart is it consistently does not shy away from the fact that, as a black man, Rufus’ experiences traveling back in time are always going to be different than those of his white teammates.
Rufus’ storyline with the group of black Union soldiers who are hoping to reunite with their formerly enslaved families in Timeless Season 1 Episode 2, “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln,” is one of my favorite b-plots in the first season.
It is bittersweet to see these men looking forward to what they believe will be a bright future. Unfortunately, Rufus — and viewers — know that more than a century of continuing discrimination awaits them.
I appreciate that while Timeless features a lot of fun and adventure, it also is not afraid to address the uglier side of our history, which is refreshing and necessary.
5. Lucy’s 1960s Cocktail Waitress Dress

Lucy refusing to wear the skimpy uniform Rufus initially steals for her on Timeless Season 1 Episode 3, “Atomic City,” is one of the best costume related moments in Season 1. As one of my least favorite clothing tropes, seeing Lucy quickly and forcefully dismiss the idea before directing Rufus to find her something else to wear is quite enjoyable.
Plus, this dress may show less skin but it is still pretty amazing! I mean, I’d wear it. How about you?
6. Wyatt’s 1940s Shirt and Shoulder Harness

Wyatt without his coat is handsome, but his ability to notice something is bothering Lucy and offer her some good advice on Timeless Season 1 Episode 4, “Party at Castle Varlar,” makes him even more attractive.
It is also no coincidence that for Lucy and Wyatt’s first heart-to-heart talk she is in the process of dressing, and he is simply in his shirt. The setting and actions in this scene help create a more intimate space for the characters to grow closer.
