18 Inspiring TV Heroes of 2017

Arrow, Best of 2017, Gotham, Lists, Nashville, Stranger Things, Supergirl, The 100, The Flash, This is Us, Wynonna Earp

Either super or ordinary, heroes are everywhere these days.

Almost every one of our favorite shows has someone who can be deemed a hero, do-gooder, adventurer, or just plain “good guy.” This year in television proves no different. We’ve put together an entourage of characters who may automatically jump to mind, and even a handful who won’t.

Here are 18 inspiring TV heroes of 2017:

1. Jack Pearson (This Is Us)

Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson
On This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia emotes Jack Pearson as a father that everybody loves. Not an episode goes by that Jack doesn’t have some savory advice for his children Kevin, Kate, and Randall.

Jack is always there to lift them up from the ground, even if they are the ones that put themselves there. From putting Kevin in his place for sassing the talent scout, to driving Randall to Howard University, he is simply a hero for being the best father he can be, even under extreme circumstances.

2. Cisco Ramon/ Vibe (The Flash)

Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe

Don’t call Cisco a sidekick! He has proven himself time and time again as an integral part of Team Flash.

In The Flash Season 4, Cisco spends the summer protecting Central City alongside Kid Flash. Then wouldn’t you know it, a villain comes to town that isn’t such a pushover. With his high-level intelligence and superpowers, he discovers a way to free his mentor Barry Allen from the Speed Force without once again destroying the city.

“Crisis on Earth-X“, the DCTV crossover, proves that not only is Cisco a great friend, but also a literal life-saver. But more on that in a bit.

3. Beverly Goldberg (The Goldbergs)

Wendi McLendon-Covey as Beverly Goldberg-The Goldbergs

The Goldbergs Season 5 has Beverly realizing she isn’t as needed as she once was to the children she built her life around. In reality, this is a crushing moment for mothers all around America. This can often lead to what is essentially a mid-life crisis.

Not for our Bev though. Instead our Bev decides to launch a Bevolution! This includes everything from a new perm to night school and even taking Thanksgiving off for the year. Not everything works out as planned, but way to go Beverly for showing America that old moms can learn new tricks!

4. Lincoln Burrows (Prison Break)

Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows

Most brothers would bail you out of the local jail. Lincoln Burrows on the other hand, travels to another country to break his brother, Michael Scofield, out of prison. Not to mention this particular country is at war.

In Prison Break Season 5, Lincoln receives a photo of his assumed dead brother and sets out to find out what it is all about. Once at the prison, his brother blows him off, but that doesn’t cause Lincoln to scurry back home. He does all he can to set his brother free and send him back home to his family.

This time Lincoln not only risks his own freedom, but his life. Terrorists are everywhere, and soon Michael and Lincoln are on everyone’s hit list. So many of us claim we would take a bullet for our siblings, but does that include bullets from semi-automatic weaponry?

5. Deacon Claybourne (Nashville)

Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne

Nashville is a show of dreams and tragedy. Deacon Claybourne has lived the dream playing on stage with many country greats, but this season he faces one of his greatest tragedies. With the death of his spouse, Rayna James, his world comes crashing down.

Deacon didn’t ask for this. He is now a single father to Maddie and Daphne. This alone can be difficult enough, with one being a teenager and the other heading into puberty. Add the hassle of a near-failing record label to the mix, and this would cause anyone to have a nervous break down

For his daughters, Deacon stays strong. He unites the family in a new way and even brings one of Daphne’s homeless friends in from the cold, hard street. Also, when the sole investor to his company starts harassing the artists, Deacon goes to bat for them, even though it isn’t in his best interest.

6. Jim Gordon (Gotham)

giphy (4)

Facing off against the likes of Scarecrow and Professor Pyg is scary enough, but when Penguin joins the situation, the GCPD barely stands a chance.

The criminals of Gotham are being given permission to commit any crime they would like, as long as Penguin gives them a license that is. Of course, a license entitles the Penguin to royalties. Part of these royalties are then spread around Gotham to payoff anyone who may want to veto the system.

Payoffs include everyone from public officials to police officers themselves. Only one man has enough integrity to go against this corruption, Jim Gordon.

Jim takes the fight to Penguin, but the GCPD does their best to put a stop to their best officer. Ridiculed and bruised, Jim doesn’t give up. He stands for what is right and slowly wins the police force back over to the side of good.

  • OCTAVIA IS NOT A HERO! She betrayed her own people. CLARKE IS THE HERO and the starring character on THE 100 show some respect!

    • I wouldn’t say Octavia is a hero either Clarke saved everyone on multiple occasions. I like Octavia but I just feel like it doesn’t make that much sense.

  • Of these above I route for Octavia.

But I do have two other BIG FAVS as well and the first one is Vanessa Van Helsing from Van Helsing. She is a one of a kind, deadserious vampire-slayer. Definitely a fav of mine.

Then, yeah I was late to the Supergirl party and only discovered Supergirl a few months ago. I love both Kara and Alex, but Alex who is a human being with no superpowers, damn she kicks ass and stays true to herself. She is strong and cares big time for her sister. Great qualities.
I learnt one big lesson from the kids-discussion and the breakup-scene, and I wish that I years ago in a similar situation had been as smart as Alex and stayed true to myself instead for trying to wait things out. You are allowed to go for what you want, else there will just be regrets latwr in life. So Alex Danvers has done the biggest impact on me and is my top FAV of 2017 and will be for 2018.
