No matter how bad the year 2017 might’ve been a sure-fire way to take your mind off of pressing issues is to sit back, relax, and turn on your favorite show.

Here’s a look at some of best male TV characters from 2017, in no particular order.

1. Scott McCall (Teen Wolf)

Scott McCall proves time and time again that no matter the circumstance, he’s going to give his all and do everything in his might to do the right thing, even if it means going against the ones he loves at the time. He is without a doubt one of the top characters of 2017 as Teen Wolf made its final exit and ended after six seasons. Tyler Posey played Scott McCall beautifully and left a lasting impression on all of us.

2. Tyler Finn (Sweet/Vicious)

Nick Fink in Sweet/Vicious Season 1 Episode 3, "Sucker"

Tyler Finn, played by Nick Fink, is/was one of the best things about Sweet/Vicious. Although Sweet/Vicious ended in January, there’s no way that this list could be completed without Finn. Finn proves it’s still possible to find that diamond in the haystack.

SHADOWHUNTERS – (Freeform/John Medland) ISAIAH MUSTAFA

Luke Garroway, played by Isaiah Mustafa, is an ex-shadowhunter and current leader of the New York werewolf pack. He is also the kind of person you want around you on a daily basis. His undying loyalty to the ones he loves is one of the many factors that contribute to him being a fan favorite.

4. Marcus Keane (The Exorcist)

Ben Daniels in The Exorcist Season 1 Episode 5

Marcus Keane is an excommunicated priest who specializes in exorcisms. This, already, makes him a complex and interesting character, but there is so much more to this exorcist. Not only does he fight demons possessing poor souls, but his own, as well. And he does it with compassion and a sense of morality that has been shaped by years of witnessing the unholiness that springs from the very depths of hell.

Marcus isn’t the typical person one would expect to see embody a well-developed LGBT character–especially on a horror show, which often underrepresents that community–but he is just that. With all that he’s seen in his lifetime of performing exorcisms, he can still be gentle, snarky, tough, and sensitive.

John Jaqobis is the complex and lovable tech-savvy bounty hunter whose driven by his humanity and loyalty. Killjoys Season 3 showed us a much darker Johnny and how that affected his relationship with partner/best friend Dutch and his brother D’avin.

He reminds us that even when things seem hopeless, you can still have fun — like when he got stabbed in the chest and made a joke with a smile on his face. He’s smart, full of heart, and I wouldn’t change him for the world.

6. Randall Pearson (This Is Us)

Sterling Brown in This Is Us Season 2

Randall Pearson is hands down one of the best things to come from This Is Us. He won us over in Season 1 and continues to do so throughout Season 2. Sterling K. Brown deserves to win all of the awards.

  • I love Scott McCall, too. Tyler Posey did such an amazing job portraying him, and I’m so happy to have gotten a chance to see both him and Scott grow into their own. Scott is one of my fave male characters of all time. ❤️
