Scandal: Top 9 Moments from ‘Vampires and Bloodsuckers’ (Season 7 Episode 6)

Reviews, Scandal

The day that we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. Scandal Season 7 Episode 6, “Vampires and Bloodsuckers,” has Quinn and Charlie about to tie the knot in the midst of the death of President Rashad.

It is every bit as emotionally charged as you’d think, but here are a few of the top moments from Scandal Season 7 Episode 6, “Vampires and Bloodsuckers.”

KERRY WASHINGTON

After the plane blew up at the end of Scandal Season 7 Episode 5 “Adventures in Babysitting,” you can bet that Quinn was going to have a bone to pick with Olivia. The thing is, the conversation at the war memorial starts to reframe everything we know about Olivia.

Quinn talks about how Olivia does what suits her, and if we go back to all the illicit decisions she’s made (saving Lindsay, stealing the election) they can all be seen as a means to an end.

What does this mean for Olivia Pope this season? I really can’t be sure, but it’s starting to look by the time the series is over, Olivia will have more enemies than friends, and this episode surely sets her on that path.

2. Cyrus and Fenton and the $3,000 Omelet

This scene is honestly kind of sweet. I wasn’t completely sold on Fenton when we first met him on Scandal Season 7 Episode 2 “Pressing the Flesh.” Then I realized, he wasn’t supposed to make a good first impression in that episode. He’s since grown on me, and I like seeing Cyrus happy.

The thing that really got me was the $3,000 omelet. This made about as much sense as Tiffany’s Everyday Objects line released earlier this week, which includes a $9,000 ball of yarn and a “paper cup” made of bone china.

Congratulations, Scandal, you’re effectively painting exactly how much money Fenton has at his disposal. (As if a one-hundred million dollar painting wasn’t enough of a clue!)

3. Huck: The Best Man and the Maid of Honor Ever

If I ever get married, I need a guy like Huck to be my Maid of Honor! First, he has all the details of the ceremony down. He rides Olivia about memorizing a poem, he’s managing all the vendors, I would have no reason to worry.

His excitement over the macaroon delivery is just adorable, because of course macaroons would go on the macaroon table!

Plus, if I was ever kidnapped, like Quinn is in this episode, he’d be the one puzzling out that someone isn’t right. He’d probably also save my bacon! Now, that just spells Maid of Honor to me.

4. Charlie Decides to Wing His Vows

I never really developed a like or dislike for Charlie. George Newbern is a great actor, and I’ve loved the way he plays the nuanced assassin, and Charlie has had a really interesting storyline with Quinn, but I never rooted for him until this moment.

His confession to Abby about how he’s had a hard time writing his vows feels very honest. The “I’m having a hard time writing my vows” storyline for a wedding has been done before, but Newbern delivers Charlie’s story about watching Quinn sleep in such a touching way.

I am not usually a romantic, but my favorite moment is when he says:

“I’m a weird guy, she’s a weird girl. Two people in love. What’s wrong with that?”

5. A Bag of Oranges as a Weapon

In the ongoing theme of “Olivia is digging a very deep and lonely hole for herself” she and Jake plant breadcrumbs that lead back to Fenton. You can only imagine what Charlie does with this information.

The resulting torture scene where Charlie is getting ready to kill Fenton is terrifying and amusing. (Who knew that a bag of oranges could be such an effective weapon!)

But my favorite moment in this entire sequence is when Charlie proclaims that the “hitting someone with a bag of oranges doesn’t leave a bruise” claim is “fake news.”

6. Mellie Attempts to Hire Jake

It goes without saying that Mellie is not happy with the fact that Rashad is dead. Part of that has to do with her feelings of loneliness in the highest office in the nation.

I’ve commented before about how it’s interesting having a single President and Vice President when we haven’t seen that dynamic before. The thing with Mellie’s loss is that she can’t grieve it as a normal person, and she’s trying to deal with it in a way that would be acceptable as a leader. That means hiring Jake to take out the Bashrani rebels were responsible for the coup.

The way that Jake turns her down stings and rubs salt in her wound, but it’s also a great moment that just shows how lonely Mellie is at the top.

7. Quinn Taped the Whole Thing

The most dramatic moment of this episode is when it’s revealed that Quinn taped the conversation she had with Olivia. Watching Olivia realize there’s proof and begging Jake to erase the footage at The War Memorial is a very tense moment.

But I can’t say that Olivia doesn’t deserve it.

As I was watching Olivia, sitting in QPA, trying to help puzzle out what happened to Quinn, I kept thinking back to last season when Abby was in the same position!

Remember when Abby was in league with Samantha? Remember when she realized Huck was missing and started freaking out? Remember when Quinn and Charlie realized what happened and Quinn almost throttled her?

Oh, Olivia, I don’t think you’re making any friends here.

8. Charlie and Huck Share a Drink

After a very emotional episode, it’s nice to see everyone take a moment to pause and reflect on what’s to come, even if the outlook doesn’t look great.

I found it very touching when Huck comes to Charlie and pours him a drink. Knowing that both of these characters love Quinn, in different ways, and having this moment be silent says so much.

9. Quinn Didn’t Really Run Away

Finding proof that Quinn didn’t run and isn’t out hiding from them, but was actually taken was a huge shock. I never thought that she ran away to begin with, but seeing her standing in the elevator in her wedding dress just affirmed it, and gives the perfect lead in to the winter finale.
